When a fellow officer and nurses are asking to let them go and he doesn't, that's just terrible.

I agree, that's terrible and he should be dealt with..but the family lost some of my condolences when they brought racism into it.

when the police hits the lights, you gotta pull over .. unless i am, or have a dying person in the car, I'm pulling over

besides, does running a red light and speeding through the town really create a material amount of time .. not really

maybe it's possible the cop figured they were bullshitting him about "my mom's dying"

to boot, this could have gone down on the wee hours of the morning .. further adding suspicion they were up to something shady

just sayin

The cop would've done the same thing if it was a white guy he was just being a prick with a god complex. This being said the family is also very emotional as death tends to do to people. I will give them a pass with the unnecessary playing of the race card.

Not to mention they jumped out of the SUV as soon as they stopped and he was out of his car. I would guess that in his line of work, that doesn't typically mean good things.

then yeah I'm running the red lights after being sure the coast is clear. The fact he was pulled over IN THE HOSPITAL PARKING LOT might have given the cop a clue that there was at least a chance he was telling the truth about his mother-in-law dying.

wife and I were in Orange Beach with my in-laws.......My father in law drown........We followed the ambulance closely on its way to the hospital as they were working with my father in law.....My wife was driving and we watched as we drove thru intersections to ensure they were clear.....However, a young cop got behind us and hit his lights........My wife wasn't stopping.......Then another cop got in and followed us.........Then a third pulled around and got in front of us to where we HAD to pull over........As you can imagine, my wife was hysterical at this point.........They pulled us over, read us the riot act and the whole time us explaining why we were doing so.....They simply didn't care........The officer then told my wife that he would take her to jail.....I had to beg him not too.......He then made her go sit on the passenger side and made me drive and follow him while doing 30 MPH.........I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO PISSED IN MY LIFE..........By the time we got to the hospital, my father in law had passed........No wonder cops and law enforcement officers have such bad reps.........Power tripping punks........

They can't just let you go. If they do, and you hit someone, they are going to get the **** sued out of them. It sucks, and I'm sure they were being dicks, but it's a ****** situation for everyone involved.

I understand that a cop has to do his job and I respect them for it. However, when he took his sweet *** time after being told by hospital security AND the dying woman's nurse, thats crossing the line bigtime.

And frankly, I don't blame Moats' wife for disobeying either, if my mother only has minutes to live, <17> everyone else I'm making a beeline in that hospital, shoot if you need to.

I hate to hear that about your father-in-law. I would imagine the best thing to do in cases such as this would be to pull over as soon as the blue lights come on and explain the situation. That may keep a bad situation from getting worse. Yielding to blue lights and explaining your situation may allow the officer to afford you a little more discretion than he would if he had to get two more units involved. In either case, the officer should be behave professionally.

by the same token, if a cop sees someone FOLLOWING AN AMBULANCE, he doesn't have any business pulling them over in the first place. I'd have damn sure filed a complaint with the police chief and written a letter to the editor of the local newspaper.</p>

Following an ambulance through an intersection without lawfully yielding right of way/waiting for the light to turn green is a dangerous practice and illegal, which gives an officer every right to stop someone for doing it. The other motorists are obligated to yield to the ambulance only.

I lost my father-in-law to a massive heart attack and as I was following the ambulance I made damn sure not to endanger anybody else's life. He lived one more day, but he could have died on the way. That didn't give me the right to endanger anyone else on the road.
