Terry can stop the bleeding. Retain the good of the staff, get rid of the bad. PSU
alums will help with NIL transfers.
Chesney can move most of his roster to PSU but will lose most of PS's roster. Same
gamble with experience as would be with TS. Same with Hartline, and he's not bringing
Smith, Sayin, and any of his 5* receivers.
Any SEC coach Kalen, Eli etc. brings in a staff but limited roster transfers, and most
players will stay in the south.

What’s Terry Smith doing to stop this? Besides getting infront of the media and acting like beating Michigan State and Nebraska are playoff wins.
There's nothing he can do as an interim.coach. Kids want certainty and he can't deliver that.

Well they don’t seem to be having that problem at Florida, LSU, Auburn and some other schools.

What a BS thing to say. No one is claiming these are playoff-caliber wins. But of COURSE he’s going to show enthusiasm and pride and congratulate the team for cranking out these wins after all the struggles during their six-game skid.
What would you have him do, get up and say “Meh, it was just MSU and Nebby?” Yeah, that would be great for team morale.
Having these players show ANY positive emotion and engagement at this point is an accomplishment, and I give Terry a lot of credit for that.
Right of course, what about being blown out by OSU. What about losing to Iowa? Does he get credit for that? You’re acting like he’s piling wins together with Chattanooga State. This was a preseason top 5 team with a top 15 roster regardless of their record. He’s 2-3 as a coach, they’ve lost 20 commits. Those are the facts.
So does anyone know the real answer as to why we are hemorrhaging recruits while other schools in search mode are not?

Because LSU has won three national championships with their last three head coaches before BK. Jamarr Chase and Justin Jefferson are two best WRs in the NFL. Joe Burrow was a buzzsaw at LSU and will be a future HOFer. Penn State hasn’t had a 1st round QB this century.
Maybe because a lot of our decommits want to go play for our previous coach and that’s not the case at the other schools.
Kraft by naming Terry HC and getting him the GM support staff and NIL he needs. The guy will win. No matter what coach they bring in their will be a rebuilding period. Go with what you know.

Appears the timing of PSU looking for a top notch HC didn't work out like the AD had hoped?
Let's face it. Even if Terry Smith gets hired, PSU is going to lose a lot of the recruits. He'll have to work the portal.
No man has ever gained one thing by thinking negative. You are what you allow your mind to tell what you are or you are what you think. It's always better to think positive. You have to believe it to achieve it.
I’m not either. But I’m also not going to take shots at the interim coach who was handed a sh^tshow and is doing his best to steady the ship.

I’m not acting like anything… I’m just saying he’s right to show some enthusiasm over the team finally pulling together some wins when they could have bailed on the season entirely.
And yes, he gets credit for those other games… his record as a head coach is 2-3 so far and that’s an objective fact. I also understand that he was left holding the bag with having to break in a new redshirt freshman starting QB who went up against top 5-ranking defenses in his first 3 games. And a team mentally reeling from their prior coach’s firing. So I’m reasonable enough to realize that was a very tough spot to be in and to feel some positivity over the fact that the team hasn’t gone o-fer the entire rest of the season.
There are degrees of how a fan can view all this, it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing thinking.
How can we be so sure these guys will still be loyal to Terry and recommit? I know he is a good recruiter but he didn’t recruit all the decommits.
That’s an unpopular but correct point.

Today there are no guarantees, but he gives us our best shot at retaining who we can. A number of our better players have come out and said that his retention would absolutely make them rethink their thoughts of leaving. Putting it simply they love him more than they ever did Franklin and respect him for pulling the best out of them when they were at their worst. If anybody ever wanted a Joe Paterno type coach when Joe was younger Terry Smith is it.
I don't think it would be as bad as some think. There will be attrition as there is every year in this new era of college football, but it simply doesn't have to be devastating. A lot of people say how bad it's going to be but aren't exactly sure why. Perception is rarely reality.
Because Franklin is a good relationship builder, better than Napier and loser Brian Kelly. Take that away, and players reconsider. But nothing is lost until signing day, and Kraft knows there will be attrition and surely (hopefully?) is preparing the funds to compete in the portal for the next coach.
That’s fine, and I don’t disagree necessarily. Especially if they don’t get a “home run hire”.
But you can’t do it as most are suggesting, 3 year wait and see. This is a 5+ year commitment, whoever it is, and the standard will be a 5 year contract and we will have to do that with him just the same.
