Didnt know his name before today.
Still dont know his name based on this thread and not googling.
Cant miss what you didnt know existed.

Sucks, if he was really highly ranked.
The Portal has become much more critical and looks to continue to be more critical.

He wasn’t highly ranked. These guys are getting cut because they know they are going to get seniors back for a 5th year.

The decommits this week were cuts. They're anticipating the approval of a 5th year of eligibility, so the high school signing class needs to shrink.
In the past, I might’ve laughed at comments like this, but I suspect that you’re spot on with this one. Lebby’s ‘26 class was one of the worst I’d seen in a couple decades as of last week, so I’m honestly glad to see some of this churn.

Yeah, unfortunately there were plenty of candidates in this group.

Can't imagine how brutal it is for high school kids nowadays that aren't 5 stars with this rule plus the Juco ruling. You essentially have to go to a G5 school knowing that a transfer after a few years is your only shot at a P4 program.

They gotta play somewhere, before they can be portal players. I've NEVER followed recruiting, at all, but there's even less chance now that I will. (that sounds like one of Yogi Berra's quotes)

Exactly. Good that we're cutting 3* players and just picked up a 4*. But it begs the question, how much time and money did we waste on players we're just going to wind up cutting 2 months before signing day?

But at the time they weren’t wasting time on them because they didn’t know that they were going to change the five-year rule so that’s set in motion cutting these players.

Exactly right. I was talking with a Memphis high school coach the other day and he said getting a D1 scholarship is extremely difficult now for a high school player. He’s seeing more go the D2 and G5 route hoping to get noticed by the big boys.

From our recruiting rankings, it looks like we were wasting time on a lot of them.

I think that's just the way it's heading fast. If you don't project to start as a FR at the P2 or P4 level, you're going to have to go G5 and try to transfer up. G5 will be a feeder group for the P4.

Yep - Memphis, Southern MississippI, etc will be our feeder programs

We aren't going to have a huge signing day. On purpose. Get used to it
In all honesty, as usual Lane was quick to realize how the new recruiting and transfer rules work. On HS signing day, we should be signing as many 4* players as we can and just a few 3* that we believe are underrated. Probably no more than 8-12 players total. I've beyotched about our 2026 recruiting ranking a few times, but really it doesn't matter all that much IF we can bring in a good portal class in January. And by good, I mean in terms or quality as much or more than quantity.

This is college recruiting now. Lots of kids getting offers, committing, then getting cut loose late in the process because of ever-changing rules, recruiting over, and the portal. Get used to it

Agree. Looking at how many we took at 3 * and below, I figured our plan was to overcommit anyway. Then see how their senior season went, and hope enough prove better than thought and cut the rest. The 5 yr eligibility helped us speed up some cuts. I’d imagine we see more after their high school seasons are over too.

I hope so. Right now per 247 we have 22 3* commitments. That's way too many 3*. Big problem is we have 0 4-5* commitments other than the 1 we apparently picked up today.

You can commit whoever you want, then whittle that down later while you work on some higher rated guys and evaluate your portal needs. If kids are going to jump around from school to school, coaches should be doing the same with recruiting. I imagine we aren't done replacing kids and if we can hit on a big portal guy with a couple years left, even more.

Can’t really blame the coaches. I mean sign a 3 star player you think will eventually be able to contribute. Coach him up for couple years then when he can help you he jumps ship via the portal. It’s a screwed up system but you have to play the transfer game to survive High school kids will pay the price unfortunately

There are 32 5 star players every year.
we won’t getting any of them so don’t fret it.
There are usually 240+/- 4 star players every year. Be happy if we get 3 and ecstatic if we get 4 or more.

The only 3 stars we should be signing are 87-89’s, except for Olinemen( 85-87’s) Anything less is a crap shoot.

Maybe we didn’t have to waste time or money on all those $h1tty players since you claim they are so bad.

maybe they were just happy with an sec offer.
