Not that this is of any real importance, but I think it's worth noting. I was listening to Fox Sports Radio earlier this morning. Their regular third shift host Ben Maller was on, and he was briefly discussing the possible coaching changes and rumors in college football right now. He started off talking about Charlie Weis, but then ended up mentioning a rumor about Tommy Bowden possibly being interested in the Mississippi State job. He said he didn't understand why on Earth Bowden would be interested in the MSU job "because it's one of the worst jobs in the country."
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the perception that the rest of the country has about our program is another crucial reason why we need to hire the right person this time. I've always believed that we can and should win. I don't mean on the level of LSU or Florida, but certainly a solid 7+ win per year program. If we were on that level, we wouldn't get nearly as much flack from so many people in the national media who I believe can be a detriment to any future hiring process. Maybe people also wouldn't be so ill-informed about certain facts regarding MSU or Starkville in general, like some guy I heard the other day on FSR who thought that MSU was located in a dry county. It's crazy what you learn that people falsely believe about something just because it's not normally thought of or discussed.
It's time for MSU to make the right hire, put our football program on the map, and earn a little respect for once. Who knows, maybe one day we won't be called "Mississippi."
