Another example of how important this coaching hire is for Greg Byrne and MSU.

Not that this is of any real importance, but I think it's worth noting. I was listening to Fox Sports Radio earlier this morning. Their regular third shift host Ben Maller was on, and he was briefly discussing the possible coaching changes and rumors in college football right now. He started off talking about Charlie Weis, but then ended up mentioning a rumor about Tommy Bowden possibly being interested in the Mississippi State job. He said he didn't understand why on Earth Bowden would be interested in the MSU job "because it's one of the worst jobs in the country."

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the perception that the rest of the country has about our program is another crucial reason why we need to hire the right person this time. I've always believed that we can and should win. I don't mean on the level of LSU or Florida, but certainly a solid 7+ win per year program. If we were on that level, we wouldn't get nearly as much flack from so many people in the national media who I believe can be a detriment to any future hiring process. Maybe people also wouldn't be so ill-informed about certain facts regarding MSU or Starkville in general, like some guy I heard the other day on FSR who thought that MSU was located in a dry county. It's crazy what you learn that people falsely believe about something just because it's not normally thought of or discussed.

It's time for MSU to make the right hire, put our football program on the map, and earn a little respect for once. Who knows, maybe one day we won't be called "Mississippi."

is backwards. It doesn't help being in a town called Starkville and losing so much.

I`m not gonna go overboard and call us a sleeping giant but because of Larry 17ing Templeton we are operating at a fraction of what our potential really is. We need to make a good hire and then it`s up to each of us to do our part if we want that image to change.

Since when is Starkville not in a dry county?

I thought the city alcohol ordinances trumped the county ordinances. Did this change in the past 8 years?

I agree with the rest of what you wrote.

LT did whatever Kramer told him to do. When Foglesong came in, LT knew his days were numbered. We have had a security officer in charge of an SEC program since the mid 80's. Try to remember some of LT's greatest marketing ploys(insert cricket sounds). He hire Sherrill away from a used car lot and paid him, correct me if I'm wrong 75k a year to come try. Did the same thing when he put Williams in charge. He had no vision.

Bryne is night and day and when we announce our new coach, the nation will look at us and go wow!

Don't rule out Peterson. Remember that Byrne was born in Idaho. I know for fact that he really wants Peterson and Greg can be quite convincing.

The main reason we are "one of the worst jobs in the country" is because we have had ****** coaches. In the 90's you did not hear people saying that **** much. Most of the news media reporters do not even investigate the **** they report on. If we hire a good coach and he wins 6 + games a year for 4-5 years then all of a sudden this kind of talk goes away.
