Rod Woodson (olive branch HS), safety, was released by saban. Add him to jammy johns and Alonzo Lawrence in recent months. Let this be a lesson to Mississippi recruits. Stay in Mississippi, MFers!

didn't exaclt light it up over there either. That WR from NWRankin (Malcom something?) did okay over there, but for the most part those guys never see daylight there. Didn't Milton Talbert sign with Bama and flop too?

you sign with Saban. He will cut you in a heartbeat if he sees you aren't going to significantly contribute.

That seems pretty crappy to cut someone in August. You would think that he would have known he was going to cut him after spring.

recruiting the home state hard. He's actually putting a good product on the field and giving the MS recruits a real choice to stay at home. Before it was play for Croom or Orgeron, or get out. I don't blame them one bit for leaving.

by the Bama's and LSU's are not that good when they get thrown in with the "cream of the crop" from other states..... Maybe the scheme at those schools, maybe coaching, maybe talent, don't know.... I hope that talent isn't the case as we are so focused on MS kids

a superstar, he was a 1000 yard producer in '07. but after the ship was "righted", he just didn't have the talent to play in tuscaloosa.

Talbert is buried some where on the depth chart.

You are probably one of those sidewalk Bama fans, but Talbertis off the team. On medical scholarship that Saban likes to use so much to get under 85.

Terry Grant led the Tide in rushing one year, but never got a 1000 yards.

And the issue with Woodson has much more to do with getting to 85 than academics.

I did attend the University...in the 80s.This is all alearned, however... BAC > GPA; = USMC.

regardless, since the days of Rudd and Townsend, I can't recall many MS players that have been worth their pay for the Tide.

(2) not cutting it trying to learn saban's system;
(3) not perceived as properly buying in to the saban cult;
(4) saban needs room to clear the 85, so c ya deadwood.

to Meyer that if he took the MSU job he would stay out of Florida. Just doesn't make sense that with all the contacts Mullen would have there that we wouldn't be working that State harder.

So no other SEC teams scoops them up, since most teams are pretty set in stone, unless you recruit from AAA parchman like some coaches have in the past week.

For one thing, we wouldn't be competing directly with Florida for their recruits anyway. We'd be taking their leftovers. And for another, it sure didn't stop Mullen from taking Chad Bumphis from them, which Meyer supposedly wasn't too happy about.

I'm still waiting for the scathing ESPN, SI, anyone article about Saban's tactics.

Every year in the summer just about, he's had more than 85 players on his roster. Then, if not enough of them mess up, flunk out, or transfer on their own, he simply cuts them come August with some BS excuse, or he puts some on medical hardship, so they don't count toward the 85.

He's loopholing the crap out of the rules, but no one dares to question him or write an article about how he basically sends these kids packing and tells them good luck finishing their education somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong. I wish we were in position to screw people over that way, but if the media is going to rip people, I don't see why he hasn't received more flak for it. It happens every year, and they always say it was academics or something else, when in reality it just means that said player wasn't high enough on the depth chart.

Do you expect Saban to say, "I had to cut him because I oversign every year"?

If it were performance related, he would have been cut after spring practice.

If it were academic realated, he also would have been cut sooner most likely. First session of summer school has been over for a while.Maybe he was counting on a second summer session and he failed. The timing of it, plus the well documented fact that Bama is having a hard time getting to 85, suggest that this is a numbers issue related to some new signee qualifying.

Required reading...be sure to go down and lookat how many cuts have been made this summer.

Please pay attention to how saban operates, especially when it comes to Mississippi guys. Mississippi recruits are expendable in saban's world. Why risk it, Quay?

Come be a part of what manny and wilson are cooking, baby.

But you're right - he's about it recently. And it's not just at Bama. There are only a handful of guys in the last 5-6 years that have left the state & had much success. It just appears to me that it's not a good move unlessa guyreally has his head on straight.

He was from Northwest Rankin. He was like their third reciever two years ago. Also, don't forget about Griffin from South Panola. He also the bright lights of Bama

The interesting part is that Alabama only has 9 scholarship players on their roster, and with two guys greyshirting this year that leaves only 7 openings for next year plus the juniors that leave for the NFL. Alabama currently has 16 verbal commitments for next year, so much like LSU, they are already over the limit.

Agree, Saban had to get down to 85, so he picked the 'weakest' link and dismissed him.Even with this cut, they still have two signed recruits that will have to grayshirt. Next year will be really interesting. With only nine Seniors, - a couple of Juniors that jumpearly, + the two grayshirts and Saban only has ~ 10 -12 openings (- any thathe throws under the medical hardship'bus). He already has 16 committed for next year and has not slowed down. National media will overlook oversigning a few but next year, I think the NCAA may step in to limit this practice. LSU is in the same shape numbers wise for next year, too, if I recall correctly.

Cheers,
Biscuit

I just don't know why you'd cut a guy who's contending for a starting job to get to 85 unless there was an academic or team rule issue involved. And I don't know why you'd go out of your way to publicly say he wasn't meeting the expectations that had been set out for him. As far as I know Saban hasn't made those kinds of comments about the other players he cut just to get to 85.

rumored over the summer to be on the verge of washing out in Hattiesburg. He's still listed on the reporting roster, so it might be a false alarm.

This year he has 14 guys on his roster from Florida. He certainly maintained that connection and pipeline from when he was DC at Miami, going into his 10th season. He has a lot of NJ kids, but also gets kids from Fla. I would suspect he is getting speed and skill guys that are sloppy seconds and thirds that Miami, FSU and UF did not want.

Zo is still on the roster, but he is MIA.

Fedora was quoted a couple of weeks back as saying he didn't know what was going on with Lawrence, but that he wasn't with the team.

You guys do realize that the SEC made a rule that teams can only sign 28, and that 25 has long been the maximum amount of freshmen you can bring in during the fall out of those 28... so Saban isn't doing anything that everyone else isn't doing by using medicals and other things of that nature to stay under the 85 scholarship limit while still bringing in 22-25 per year. How many times do you remember teams signing less than 20 players because they had70 or soreturning scholarship players?
