From what I've read, the payroll for baseball is not even close to men's basketball.
As it should be
Not arguing that it's not or shouldn't be. I just hope we do adequately fund baseball. Don't need to overpay, but I want to stay relevant there.

We could buy a final four team. That’s within our budget. We should think about diverting much more money to basketball. I mean how much worse can football get?
Agreed. If at all possible, we should make it our main focus. We don't have some elite culture/tradition, but we also don't have the absence of one either.

We don’t miss out on baseball players because of NIL.

Exactly. indiana spent five million on their basketball team. They suck because of bad coaching but that is supposed to be an expensive roster. Football will probably spend 8-10 million for an 0-8 SEC record. Put some of that money in baseball and basketball

Devil’s Advocate say: There are probably 90 other schools thinking the same thing.
And a dozen or more others with little if any payroll who have the potential to get hot at just the right time to put an end to all those final four contender’s seasons.

Realistically 30-35 teams. Point is we are probably two players from a final four team. Could grab a couple of 6-3/6-4 guards who can score off of mid majors for pocket change

We have a decent coach. You add a 5 star caliber player to our team and we are a completely different animal. Add 2 and we are a 1 seed. The trick is getting them. But we could at least make it tough for them to say no.

I don’t think you even need a five star. There are guys you can get in the portal a combo guard who can score and who is physical and a pure shooter could be found in the mid majors. Mountain West, MissourI Valley has some. I agree with you, really easy to get over the hump in basketball.

All we’re missing now is a 6’4 CG and a true 5, although I like what Murphy has done this season. Easier said than done but if RJ and Claudell get that 5th year I think next year will be “the year” for us to break out in a major way. With Kanye out and no true facilitator on the team I just don’t see us reaching a S16 or better anymore

just Having a 6-3 guard who is physically strong can drive and hit an open shot would really open things up. We are playing with one undersized guard who teams can focus on.

Indiana always produces a ton of pure shooters, many go to the mid major ranks, like to stash a couple of them. They wouldn’t cost much.
