I live among them. I interviewed for a job with them years ago. The upper crust of the agency is far more aligned with politics and power than science. (Many of the staff are still scientists wanting to investigate and solve scientific problems. However, even at that level there is a great deal of political leanings in what they do and how they approach the problem at hand.) I hope this swamp gets converted to dry land. Many of their imposed 'rules' have been ridiculous and dwell on the ultimate fringe rather than have emphasis on the main stream.
