Looks like espn is doing away with the ticker that scrolls at the bottom of the screen for the NCAA football games. Good freaking riddance. What a huge distraction. Just update us on the important scores occasionally and don't distract us from the game we're watching. If there's a game I just have to be continually updated on, I'm probably watching or streaming it instead of the one you're showing anyway.

Is it going to result in more TV viewing space or will they just fill it with non-sports advertising?

No, no, of course not.

It'll be a stream of tweets from Cam Newton.
It’s gonna be an original cartoon drawn by Pat MacAfee.

I will say, with phones the ticker isn’t as necessary as it used to be. Just as long as they post upset alerts. Nothing better than watching a game and seeing a 35- 31 score with 4 minutes left in the forth with Notthern Illinois leading ND.

I don’t like this. Love seeing other scores while watching a game. Prompts me to go to another game at times
I can't imagine they're not going to update scores of other games. Just not as a distracting continuous stream across the bottom of the screen. I'd imagine between plays most likely.

If I want to know the score of another game I just pull up the ESPN or Score Mobile app. No need to sit there staring at the bottom of the screen waiting on it to revolve through and hope you don't miss it watching the actual game you are tuned in to

Hence the main reason everyone is saying E$PN is doing it. I personally have always been very annoyed by it, if I want another score I have a phone in my hand or a tablet nearby and will get it that way

It would not surprise me at all if they used it for live tweets from other commentators, former players, and just random people. The number of national news articles that I see now where they show random tweets from people is astonishing. Why not ESPN as well?

E$PN. (1) they don't want you changing the channel. (2) they also want your clicks to check the scores on their app.

Considering score updates are accessible through your tv remote and at the ready at all times on a cellular device, I for one can not see where this would be an issue.

I don’t like going through a bunch of scores on my phone while watching a game. It’s honestly annoying bc it’s either a list of like 75 games or flipping between conference/top 25 pages. I’m the opposite - I don’t see a gain on the screen. I’ve never once even thought it’s hindered my viewing experience. But to each his own

So you'll look down at the bottom of the screen for scores taking you away from watching the actual game, but you won't scroll on your phone while still having the game on tv?

Then click one button i.e. Gemini and say what is the current score of the MSU vs LA Monroe game and it will verbally tell you and you won't have to miss watching any of the game. Geez,

The score crawl is on the screen of the game. I don’t miss either. Thats why I like it.

If I look at my phone then I have to look away from the tv. And most times it’s games I’m not even thinking about so asking for a particular game isn’t really relevant.

Again I’m not gaining anything from taking it away. Its just personal preference

That or ads like was previously noted. They’re not doing it for a better viewing experience for their subscribers.

Good finally those cucks make a beneficial change. Since I don’t watch anything live I avoid the spoilers

Possibilities:

-it’ll go away and come back. It’s a PR ploy by ESPN hungry for attention
-it’ll be filled by ads
-best option is that it’ll be filled by the CC for you old deaf slobs.

I felt like the ticker always raised awareness about other teams and expanded my interest in football, which meant I would tune in to ESPN more.

If they just show the scores of games of other games going on once per hour but these stats and other Bs was uncalled for.
