6300 may also include JC transfers. Just guessingI am confused. It says we had a 12% surge in first time students. It says that number is around 4,000. Last year we said we had around 6300 first time students.
Oh Im sure it does, but they are using the exact same descriptor both years- “First Time Students”6300 may also include JC transfers. Just guessing

So is Alabama’s Crimson Tide….![]()
Doesn’t matter. Mississippi State is rolling.
For some reason, whenever I read article and posts like this, I’m reminded of “1984” by George Orwell.
This particular number is referring to first-time in college students from about 3600 to over 4000. Almost 6700 of the same first time students as last year, to compare apples to apples.I am confused. It says we had a 12% surge in first time students. It says that number is around 4,000. Last year we said we had around 6300 first time students.
Ok…I was going off this language from last year’s release:This particular number is referring to first-time in college students from about 3600 to over 4000
Yea using that phrase is a bit vague. Made an edit to my original response, but we're up in both "first time" categories they've used.Ok…I was going off this language from last year’s release:
MSU is seeing an increase of almost 500 more students over the 2023 total of 22,657. First-time students make up 6,356 of the overall student body that hails from all 82 Mississippi counties, all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and 94 countries.
I think Im more confused. I’ve re read all this and cannot find the distinction.Yea using that phrase is a bit vague. Made an edit to my original response, but we're up in both "first time" categories they've used.
First-time this year is just the freshmen. Last year was referring to new freshmen, transfers and grad studentsI think Im more confused. I’ve re read all this and cannot find the distinction.
You have to find something to make it look like a negative I guess.I think Im more confused. I’ve re read all this and cannot find the distinction.
Huh? It was very unclear. You have to find something to make it look like a negative I guess.
Well, we were up by either definition. Instead of what you thought you were doing you actually pointed out even better news.Huh? It was very unclear.
I think you have the wrong guy. I was just trying to get an explanation of the numbers. They literally used the same terminology with different definition between this year and last year. You are reading too much into this.Well, we were up by either definition. Instead of what you thought you were doing you actually pointed out even better news.
