IHSA sets the fee and home team gets a percentage of the gate, I believe they get a guarantee if there is a small turnout .

32 games this weekend let’s say 1800 average per game works out to $276,480 not a bad weekend take.
the biggest money maker by far for the IHSA is the hoops tournament .........football I believe is second.......if you check the IHSA website they show the numbers. So when you think about expanding the playoffs to more teams and less regular season games...........it is really just more $$$ into the IHSA pocket. That is what structure and admin functions do .......they take more and more.....always....never less.
If Rice and Marist play next week you are looking at a huge payday.
I would also love to know how much they are making offstreaming now....because everyone bitching about the rise from $5 to $6 dollars are in a lot of cases the same people paying $10 a month to watch it at home so...
And it was soo much better when it was 8 teams downstate. Those atmospheres were packed, I imagine they made significantly more.
I buy the season pass -fall through basketball - and tell my sister I watch my niece play volleyball in Georgia.

1. The host school shall receive a host school guarantee of the greater of $975 or 10% of the gross income, the cost of the game officials and 15% of the net income. The IHSA office will pay all playoff officials. 2. The visiting school shall receive the greater of 15% of the net income or $5 per round trip mile for the first 50 miles and $3 for each additional mile.

lol.....while waiting in line for tickets talking on their $700+ smartphones drinking a $5 cup of Starbucks....I don't think this increase is new is it....seems like they raised the prices for later rounds years ago....I may be wrong..
interesting tidbit I found......so it is possible for games to be streamed for free by schools if certain criteria are met??

The advent of greater broadcasting technology over the past few years has brought about many new potential
broadcasters and many new broadcasting platforms and mediums, especially as it pertains to broadcasting video
over on the internet. It is important to remember that most internet video streams of IHSA State Series (Regionals,
Sectionals, Super-Sectionals, Football Playoffs) events will require that a broadcast rights fee be paid by the
broadcasting individual/company. A new internet video broadcasting fee schedule has been developed and is located
below, but first please read these reminders on how to determine if a fee is necessary should you be approached
about a video webcast of the State Series event you are hosting. If at any time you ever have questions on the fees or
any other matters related to broadcasting or media, please call Matt Troha at the IHSA office (309-663-6377).
BROADCAST RIGHTS FEE PAYMENT REQUIRED
There is an IHSA broadcast rights fee required with the broadcast if any one of the options below is applicable...
1)
The internet video webcast is originated and accessible to viewers on any third-party website (i.e. media
website, IHIGH, UStream, High School Cube, fan site, etc.).
2)
If the crew producing the internet video webcast is not affiliated with the high school or not composed
entirely of high school students and/or high school personnel.
BROADCAST RIGHTS FEE PAYMENT
NOT
REQUIRED
There is no IHSA broadcast rights fee required if both guidelines below are met...
1)
The internet video webcast is produced and the crew populated entirely by high school students and high
school personnel as a part of a high school tv station, AV Club, etc.
and
2)
The internet video webcast is originated on and accessed by viewers on the high school website, the
website of the city or on the school’s IHSA.tv website (
www.IHSA.tv/schoolname
).

Yeah, the schools can have all their events streamed free via NFHS. The loophole is that NFHS charges viewers for broadcasted sporting events (non-sporting events can optionally be free). If NFHS isn't covering the game and the school has a broadcast class/club, then ite also free. Facebook/YouTube don't count because they're not actually on the school's website and actually on Facebook/YouTube (embedding doesn't count).
The past 2 years I've shelled out the $10 for the month to watch playoff football.I cancel as soon as the playoffs are done.Pretty good deal if you are someone who likes watching high school football. Kind of nice too being at a game in person and can check out some other games at same time.This year it's a godsend since I had a total knee replacement 5 weeks ago and my mobility was limited the first 3 weeks.
I’ve done the same thing. A big problem is a lot of times the game I want to watch is a poor stream, constantly buffering,etc.
The struggle is real. Many times, the game is at a complex with poor cell service and certainly not high speed broadband. Add on to that the people who have the best of intentions, but really don't know what they're doing. A stream set to stream at a lower quality can actually look much better than a stream set to a higher quality that exceeds the uplink.
I buy the season - watch from afar football and hoops.

was watching Coal City/Richmond Burton feed on school site...no issues,Sterling game through NFHS no issues,Batavia game was pretty good till last 4 minutes of 4th then kept dropping out,Naz/Simeon game only problem was glare on window in pressbox
