Another thing that should be mentioned

Holder's WHIP is way too high his last few appearances. Even early in the year he was pitching himself into jams.

The problem for Holder is he will always be compared with his freshman year, and that will be pretty impossible to repeat. He can still have a very good career however. I just hope people don't get too upset when he actually pitches like a college player and not an MLB all-star like last year.

We also faced a VERY good hitting team this weekend. They obviously scouted our pitching very well because they mastered working counts against us and knowing how and when to guard the plate. They knew what was coming down the pipeline and how they could get jumps on it (which answers why Holder struggled... if you know when and where a fastball is coming, it's not that hard to hit).

Couple that with crowding the **** out of it, that only left us with a very tight window to throw pitches and they exploited that window very well. They were everything Cohen wants us to be at the plate. I hope he took notes. They did well punishing our pitchers, even with pitches down in the zone.

While it's true that Holder hasn't been as sharp as I'd like at some points early this season, WHIP obviously includes walks, and, in my opinion, our officiating, especially at home plate, hasn't been as consistent as we will probably see in SEC play. So this could be said for a lot of stats for a lot of pitchers on our staff.

I have to disagree. I'll give you a pass from yesterday because Short's strike zone was pretty inconsistent (he's called many games for us and he's usually pretty sharp) and while a run yesterday was probably on him, the rest of the game was on us. Morris did a great job today behind the plate, I thought. The whole crew was solid today. We lost because we didn't work counts well and were too impatient at the plate and they were... that was why we lost.

Fair enough. I mean I'm not blaming our two losses on bad officiating. And I'm not blaming his high-er WHIP on it either. I'm just saying it may be a factor.

Today was all on the players. Looked like they didn't want to be there whereas CA was focused 1-9, in the field, and especially on the mound.

It may have been a small factor, but we were in our own heads this weekend, both on the mound and at the plate. We tried to overthink everything we did and it hurt us. UCA is probably one of the best hitting squads we will see all year, but I hoped we had the pitching to take 2 of 3 from them, at least. This week will be a huge test for us.

In that way I'm glad we went ahead and got humbled this weekend. Now we won't be cocky heading into this weekend. Should be some really good baseball.

Should be a great weekend. LSU always seems to have our number, but we didn't have a losing record against them last year for the first time in years. If any of you are around Starkville, go to the games because it will be a huge weekend for us... and looking like it will be some great weather for Saturday afternoon baseball.
