Sha'Kayla Caples, arrested May 13 by Vicksburg police, is facing three counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery. She is free on $375,000 bond. Sue Johnson of Natchez High, who coached against Caples, called her arrest a "tragedy."</p>

Caples, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward, was one of three candidates this spring for the C-L's Miss Basketball Award as the state's top player and was the first four-time winner of the Vicksburg Post's area Player of the Year award.</p>

As a senior, she averaged 24.7 points and 11.7 rebounds, leading Warren Central to the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association playoffs. Caples once scored 38 points in a game and scored at least 30 six other times. In her career, she scored 2,440 points and pulled down 1,507 rebounds.</p>
