that the team will pay for college if pro baseball doesn't work out. If Alford went pro and didn't make it, he wouldn't have to worry about paying for college. Of course, he'd still have to pay his living expenses but if he wasn't totally stupid in managing his money he'd be fine. Of course, we all know that a lot of these guys will blow through the money incredibly fast.

then how can you be so sure the college isn't the right decision for him? It's not like anyone is making him go. If he's smart with his money, the going pro is probably the right answer. But if he's not (and as Todd shows more than likely he's not), the money will be gone incredibly quickly and then what will he have?

will eliminate you from going bankrupt. What I am saying is that some people value education or other things more than an instant one lump some of money to do something that they may not like. I don't think there is anything wrong or stupid about that. What would be stupid to me is doing something that would make them miserable.

At the same time, if someone wants to play pro baseball and get the money, there is nothing wrong with that at all either.

I'm also saying that the one time bonus money is always all it's cracked up to be and that it can go and usually goes pretty quickly. That was my main point about the bankruptcy and athletes articles.

A lot of people like you think they get paid a million bucks and they have it made for life when the truth is that is usually not the case.

It will look real bad for Coach Buckley if Alford goes to the MLB. He is the main one that is advising Anthony, and it's a real shame that he is putting his career ahead of the young man's in this decision that could change his life for the better. USM will suck next year...

Steve Buckley was only hired to sign Alford..

Gavin Cecchini's dad is Barbe High coach Glenn Cecchini. His big brother Garin was once committed to LSU. Garin had supposedly set his number for signing a MLB contract at $1.75 million. He ended up getting drafted by the Red Sox in the 4th round and signing for $1.31. The Sox paid Cecchini 1st round money (as a 4th round pick) because he would have been a 1st rounder had he not blown his ACL his senior season.

Paul Mainieri got pissed because he lost several players in that 2010 draft that were expected to sign (Zach Lee, Cecchini, and Lucas LeBlanc). He also lost LSU player Anthony Ranaudo in that draft.

As a result, he threatened to pull Gavin Cecchini's offer over his big brother signing with the Sox for less than thought. He never pulled the offer, but he quit making contact and quit inviting him to games. As a result, Gavin committed to OM. Then catcher Stryker Trahan, another 1st round projection from Barbe, committed to OM. Cecchini, Trahan, and Ty Hensley (from OK) are all projected as 1st round picks and likely won't ever step foot on Swayze Field. Hensley plays for the Texas Sun Devils with Cecchini & Trahan, under coach Glenn Cecchini.

Alford has been living with Buckley for some time now, and Scott Berry lives down the street. Everybody saying that this is great if it's what the kid wants to do is flat wrong. It's really sad what Buckley is doing to this kid. He may really love footballbut he's gotta realize that MLB is his best option. He's 5'11 at most, he's got zero chance to play QB inthe NFL, and please save the Mike Vick and Drew Brees comparisons. He's already torn his kneeonce and he's risking way too much to try and play college football. I bet Senquez wishes he could change his mind, because he will never see a fraction of that money again.
