you make some valid points and I understand the frustration. What I don't understand is what your ultimate goal is? Does OEMCoachWaterD@A really want to fire the man in charge of the most consistent program at MSU over the last 12 years, who has reached the NCAA tourney 7 of the last 9 years, at halftime of every game?? I think any rational person would realize that isn't going to happen. Hell, I doubt Byrne even comes close to firing him if (which is a strong possibility now) we miss the tourney this year. He might entertain the notion if he then doesn't make the tourney next year.

but do you really think that if we don't make the NCAAs this year that we have much of a chance to make it next year? Yes, there is a chance we may have Sidney next year but you will remove from next year's team the best interior defender in the SEC (Varnado) and OUR best perimeter defender (Stewart). With all starters back this IS our best shot right now to be back in the NCAAs but we are not taking advantage of it so far.

I am just saying that the drivel that OEMCoachWaterD@A3499 puts out after each and every game win or lose doesn't really amount to much. I honestly believe that no matter what happens this year, he won't be fired and he will be given another chance next year at a minimum. Just asking what are they hoping to accomplish?

But it's pretty clear that we've got to make some changes in our basketball program. Stans doesn't need to be fired, but he does need to bring in 1 or 2 good assistants and he has GOT to do a better job of managing his players' egos, and/or quit recruiting players who can't be managed. We have drama between players and players and between players and the coach every damn year, and it's got to stop for our program to advance.

If you depend on MSU fans, there will never be a "right time" to pull the plug on Stansbury.

Look, the guy has been successful to a degree, but when are MSU fans going to get over the anxiety of "we can't do any better"? We heard the same ol **** in football and baseball. And while we put off sending coaches to pasture, they dragged our programs down into the depths of patheticness. But hey, if you want to continue to give him "one more chance", by all means enjoy your NIT glory. The difference between Stansbury and Richard Williams is that Stansbury doesn't have those losing record blemishes on his resume. But, you also have to remember that during Williams's tenure, Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas were national powers and had some of the most successful seasons in their history. Stansbury hasn't had to deal with a really tough SEC West.

why is it so hard for MSU fans to understand that, hey, we were actually on top? All this getting mad about losing every game is a good problem to have. At least it's not worrying about getting blown out like the Croom years or something.

Rick has not done a very good job this year that is obvious. However, I do not get this equating Stansbury to Polk, Sherrill, and Croom in their last years. The situations are not even remotely comparable until Stansbury starts turning in losing seasons either in the SEC or overall.
Also how quickly you forget some of the teams that Alabama and LSU have had over the last decade, not to mention a couple of pretty good Ole Miss teams. And another thing, what "NIT glory" are you talking about? The twice in 8 years that we have been to it? Theother 6 years we were in the NCAAs. Were you born yesterday or last week?

Is for him to basically admit he's not fluent in offensive strategy and that we're brining in an assistant coach to really work with the offensive direction of the team. Admit we're not getting good shots and we have to change that if we're going to be an elite program.

Do that and do well in landing most of the big 2011 class of recruits and my support is back. But we're going on multiple years of awful offense and our defense is sliding year over year so we keep slipping a little each and every year.

how in the hell do you justify firing a basketball coach who has made the NCAA's 7 of the past 9 years???

admittance you'll get is if he actually does bring in some new offensive blood. No coach is ever going to come out and say, "I"m not very good at running an offense."

1. When have we heardthat about baseball? For years of Polk II, people werescreaming that we COULD and SHOULD do better.

2. When we're not making the NCAA tournament consistently, then wemay have a decent chance of doing better with a new coach. But for all his faults (and all coaches have them), Stans is doing a pretty damn good job overall. We'd all love to do better, butif we fired Stans andhired a new coach, we'd be pretty lucky to evenget as good as we're getting now, and the chances of doing a lot worse are pretty high.

3.What about football? The last time we heard "we can't do any better" was a decade ago during the Sherrill glory years.

First of all, Stansbury has only made the NCAA Tourney 6 times in 11 years as head coach. If he doesnt make it this year, that makes 50%, 6 for 12 with no Sweet 16's.

I would explain that 1 SEC Title in 12 years in not that spectacular and doesnt earn you a lifetime contract
I would explain to being the best team in the West the last 10 years is only good enough for 4th place in the East, and that doesnt earn you a lifetime contract
I would explain that making the NCAA Tourney is good, but by not advancing, it doesnt earn you a lifetime contract.

I would then explain that with this season's team vastly underachieving, changes have to be made- and I would leave that to him- this time. I would lend my support in doing whatever he asked to make those changes happen. Comenext year though, after these changes are made by him, should we not see any improvement, then the changes in the basketball program would be left up to me after the 2011 season- not him.

we are 4th in wins the last 10 years behind Kentucky, Fla, and Tenn...that would make us 4th in the East

We agree that nothing can be done until after next year at a minimum?

If he somehow makes the tournament this year, its just gonna prolong what OEM wants for at least one more year if not more.

But you're right, no coach gets a lifetime contract. Hopefully we've learned from the Polk mistake.

If we go to the NIT this year and Stans doesn't make any changes, he definitely needs to be on at least a little bit of a hot seat for next year. I probably wouldn't fire him after next year unless he missed the postseason entirely though.

Just think how awful we are going to be next year. If Stans can't do anything with what we have now, then I doubt he will ever do more than what he has done. Yes he has done some good things with our program, but it is time to take that next leap. Maybe it comes back to bite us in the ***, but at this point I could care $*#++@$ less. I'm tired of what I am seeing. Yes, we have still managed to win the West a few times, but that is b/c our conference sucked *** at the time. Hopefully, since we have better leadership in the athletic department, this want turn in to something similar to the JWS years where we just keep giving Stans one more year, and we Keep regressing so by the time we do go get a coach, we get a ****** one. Yes I'm $*#++@$ pissed, I want to throw up everytime I watch this sorry excuse of a bball team play, and the sad thing is we are barely losing our games even playing pitiful ball. That is all on the coach.
