the Leo Seal estate has left a shitload to State, so much that only a small fraction of it is needed to cover the buyout. In other words, buyout money is now in place and Byrne's short list just became a more serious list.

That he has left in excess of 200 mil to the university.... why not use it to endow the scholarships to the Athletic teams first? The Leo Seal scholarship endowment fund has a nice ring to it. and then that frees up that money to throw at whatever comes up. That would be a lasting legacy and not some building or expansion that will eventually be painted over and in need of freshening down the road.

you've "gone there."

You need to spill more details.

From whence came said rumor? Insider? Bryan Building?

Further define the stability of the "legs" underpinning said rumor.

Some of us are in need of juiciness that turns the tide of forlorn acceptance of another year with this assclown.

I'd be shocked if all of what he left, if anything, is earmarked for athletics. He has given generously to academics over the years as well.

I can say, that the person I know is in a position to get info from the inside, & I have to leave it at that

When I pressed him, he said he couldn't, so call this a 50.019% rumor to truth statement

I am looking at it like this, we have about a snowballs chance in hell of winning out this season, & a very good chance of getting embarrased in these last 2 games. With the changes that have been made so far under the new admin., I feel we have intelligence running the show now, & they know what time it is. They know that offensive staff changes are not the long term answer, they know they are not blind, & the progress is not there.

if the rumor is not truth, at least I felt better for the last 2 months of the year

Call it what it is, a 50.019% true rumor from a poster w/ the intranet cred that comes from 1200 or so posts

but I am buying for now, b/c the money is there

So me and the Byrnedawg are out drinking and he looks at me from under that big tittied stripper and says "17 em I am going to fire Croom as soon as his *** loses the Eggbowl." I said finally and he said lets do some shots.

I think that rumor is way, way off the mark.

What I'm hearing is that everything hinges on the availability of a quality candidate to replace Croom. I'm hearing that Byrne won't pull the trigger unless he's got his man buttoned down tight (which is why I said Byrne and Sexton have been talking regularly). My personal opinion is that we ought to be focusing on viable candidates that might be available, such as Tubs (a long shot to say the least). If a coach like Tubs suddenly became available, then I think Byrne's decision is made.

is that some people probably thought that Nutt was a long shot to go to Ole Miss.

That said, I think Tuberville is a long shot. Not to mention it would be weird to pull for him.

Pretty simple 3,880,440 shares at $36.82 per share = $142,877,800.80

....is that you can't pin him down. Just because he all of the sudden became available wouldn't mean he was coming to State. You would need to have his contract signed before making any decisions based on him coming. He's a bit of a snake in the grass. That said, I'd love to get him, and even if we fired Croom in anticipation of getting him and it didn't work out, we still would've fired Croom.

If Mr. Seal wanted to leave 200 million to MSU, he could have done so.

I have no idea if he did, but if he wanted to he easily had the means.

I don't doubt he had the means.

He has over $140 million in HBHC stock alone.

My point is some assume he just left the majority of his estate to MSU.

Considering he has family and it was a family business, I seriously doubt the amount that has been stated.

& see the way I feel, I trust Byrne w/ this, if in fact, this is his thinking. If you are going to make a move, then already have your answer in place. I can't do anything but commend Ole Miss for how they came into employeeing Nutt.

To me, it may look good to liquidate the offensive staff & keep Croom w/ a new offensive staff, but Byrne knows this is not the answer, & that this is going to have to be a "damn the public opinion / sentiment" type of move.

but Tubbs is not tops on my list. Mind you, I dont even have a Top 5 to reel off, but I am not loving me some Tubbs. Now, if it were a Croom or Tubbs than call me an ear-loving SOB, but I dont know that Tubbs is a fit here.

first off, i hate the man. love beating him.

but, there are a few things that make him an interesting hire.

(1) he knows how to recruit mississippi. jason campbell, quentin groves, marcus mcneill (ms juco), and many more while at aub and um.

(2) he knows how to win in the sec west. see nutt at um. the guy knows what it takes.

(3) everyone else hates him. one of the things i loved most about jackie was that he stood up for us, and wasn't scared of anyone. our fans/program need that kind of leadership.

(4) he's the "riverboat gambler". he's not scared to roll the dice. it would be like night and day from our current coach, and to be honest, we are em state, and we may need to make game changing plays to have the chance to win big games. a fake punt here, 4th down conversion there, would give some big-time confidence in games we're supposed to lose. see west virginia in the sugar bowl. he damn sure wouldn't punt from the 30.

If he left MSU close to 200 million. He already had trusts set up for his kids, and Mr. Seal did not spoil his kids, he didn't believe in it. I believe Sue will be taken care of, but the man wanted his legacy to be Hancock bank and MSU.

which is to say not a perfect fit but definitely workable. You won't find any two schools in the SEC more similar culturally than MSU and Auburn. My concern about hiring him is I have a suspicion that his best days may be behind him.

and his energy level.

But give me Tubby on his worst, double pneumonia, double pulled groin, double neck brace nerve pinch, in-grown toenail, monster hemorrhoid day over the dark sloth.
