holds out as long as he can for a Meyer decision? If his decision is South Bend will Newton follow him there? Highly unlikely, but it's a thought.

ND will still have Jimmy Clausen, so I don't know if he would have to compete with him or what, and since Cam wants to sign in Dec., that's going to limit his time.

claussen should run away to the nfl.

/i hadn't really watched him until the navy game - he has an absolute cannon and is amazingly accurate.

If Weiss is out then I think Clausen jets to the NFL. His stock has risen this year and he is one of those type QBs that would rip it up in the combine, so it will continue to rise.

I'm sure he'll be drafted high, just don't know how good he will be.

I was at the WSU game, and he threw a bomb at the end of the first half for a TD.

If Newton holds true to his word and signs in December, ND won't be a factor.

However, if I'm Urban Meyer and I know there's a chance I would be coaching at ND next year, I'd be on the phone immediately with Cam Newton. Clausen will leave if Weiss leaves. Learning a new system will not help his draft stock. Plus, ND has a roster full of pro-style QBs. A QB like Newton eases the growing pains of installing an offense like UF's.

if Newton wanted to play for Meyer or if Meyer still wanted Newton then why did he leave Florida to begin with? Was that a Florida administration decision that was taken out of the hands of the coaching staff? Seems like a suspension of some sort would have been adequate. Would ND even be willing to take a guy with a "checkered" past?

John Brantley was ahead of him on the depth chart. Even after Tebow left, he wasn't going to be the starter.

Im not saying you're wrong, I just thought Cam was a much better fit for Meyer's offense; whereas Brantley is a more pro-style QB.

next year after Urban has seen how he can control the game with the running QB. They may need to open up the field more since they will lose players on D but Newton would be on the field.

Maybe Jimmy Clausen could possibly transfer to Tennessee, where his brothers played. They run a version of the West Coast offense, and Clausen would fit that better than Meyer's spread. Clausen would have to sit out a year, which is the only drawback I see, but ND played him as a true Fr., which means he would still be able to play two seasons if he transferred.

Orgeron is the king of getting wayward QB's to transfer, and UT needs some QB's, so it seems like a good fit. They may be in limbo for a year at the QB position like we are this year, but after that, Clausen should be a really good fit.

And how crazy would it be having a QB that played at Michigan and a QB that played at ND starting in the SEC?

on a UT board/blog. Some of you may have seen it but sounds like Meyer made the decision to let Cam go.

http://blogs.knoxnews.com...r-cam-newton-rumore.html

"Cecil said he never found closure from Florida Coach Urban Meyer about his son's future as a Gator once Mullen left, though he understands the Gators have priorities while fighting for a national title."

I understand that he was playing behide Tebow and Newtons dad did as well but maybe they lost faith in him ever playing without Mullen there.

Todd I didn't know you were stupid until now. A junior QB that is the nation's best passer doesn't transfer before his senior year, sit out a year, and then play when he could go to the NFL right now.

On another note, Brantley beat Newton out and probably would've stayed the starter due to him being a very good pure passer. But didn't Newton get kicked out for stealing a computer?

That quote is interesting, because I have heard that Meyer favored Brantley and Mullen favored Newton. I have often wondered if Mullen might not favor a running QB more than Meyer does.

where Claussen would transfer to another school after his junior year. He either goes pro (most likely scenario after Weiss is canned) or stays at ND.</p>

I thought Clausen was a Sophomore my bad.
This year has made it hard to remember Clausen screwup year 1 and Clausen screwup year 2. People are trying really hard to pretend this is his first year to ever play. When a gnat get's within 3 feet of the guy he throws it to the other team. Guess it's a family thing.

That being said, he will be drafted high. The NFL is littered with guys who can't throw under pressure.

According to the talking heads and "experts", one of ND's biggest problems is that they don't accept juco transfers like other schools.
