Any chance we ever see a Relf/Russell package?

I haven't seen this mentioned, or it was mentioned and I missed it. Either way it seems as though there could be some advantages to having both these guys play in a special package a couple of snaps a game. Thoughts?</p>

Considering we came out in the triple option package, I would not be surprised at all. In year two under Mullen, I expect to see alot more wrinkles. I wouldn't be surprised to see some wildcat with Bumphis, Heavens, Elliot, Perkins (I would love to see him), Ballard, or maybe even Arceto Clark. I only saw the wildcat one time last year, and that was against Kentucky with Dixon on a 4th and 1.

Dan is very creative. But I don't know if we'll actually see it. There's more of a chance one of them gets hurt.

It would be a play that's designed to keep them safe I'm sure. Maybe a throwback to Tyler Russell down the side line or something.

I don't think there would be any way it would be worth the rist though. If one goes down it looks really bad until the return. <div>
</div><div>Russell is not the best runner in the world, he might turn a knee on the snap or in stride. Ralph cannot take all the beatings we need him to so we can run a successful option, he also isn't the best passer</div>

Snap it to Relf and you are essentially playing 10 guys. What is TR going to do? He can't run. He's not going to run a route. He's not going to block. He's just a wasted man.

Snap it to TR and he'll do what he normally does. But, then you dedicate Relf as a runner, WR, or blocker. Sure, he's an athlete, but I just assume assign those duties to someone that normally runs, catches, or blocks. Why risk it?

Maybe there is some kind of trick play you could scheme up with both in, but a key factor in a trick play is the element of surprise. If we have both QBs in the game at the same time, the defense will immediately know something is up.

Think they were ever worried Tebow would get hurt running the ball? I know we don't have the best backup options butyou can't play/not play a player/put him in situations where he can't get hurt/ etc.and expect success. It doesn't work like that. Injuries areapart of the game, everyone is replaceable.

-Relf under center takes the snap, has the option to keep it and run or pitch back to Russell for a pass down the field.
-Also, you could line them both up in shotgun, Russell behind the center, Relf next to him at RB, direct snap to Relf for a run play or snap to TR for a pass play, have TR read the defense and call the play at the line.
-Use TR as decoy at WR for any given play, that could open upa lot things

I'm sure with genius as our coachhes at least schemedsomething up, just wanted to get some feedback from the proles.

#1
-Relf as the H-back (it looks like a TE behind the LOS)
-Russell in the gun with a hb to either side (the hb will be opposite of Russell as Relf)
-On the snap run the zone-read (Coach34 should like this part) (if wide open, the give to the Tailback is fine and will actually setup the rest of this play)
-Relf and The tackle not blocking the end will float to the outside
-If Russell Values his life, he will throw the screen to Relf (Russell does have the run option if the LB follows Relf and the tackle)
-Ballard should now be wide open 30 yards down the field so Relf can overthrow him and turn a sure TD into a 30-yd gain.

#2
-Relf lines up in the Slot or the Z in a 5 wide Set
-Of course Russell is in the gun
-Run the Z motion give/keep play (I can think of 4-5 run/pass options that could be ran from this)
-The pass options would be floods with a QB rollout if handed off to Relf or Standard drop back if Russell keeps
-Of course A pure Relf run could be ran from this also

I think it's viable if a team is stacking the box against Relf, not against Russell, and both are working.

But Ithink it would take vaulable practice time to make it work, and neither of those guys can afford to waste it. Maybe next year. Then again, if you can make some simple plays out of it without wasting too much time, and force the other team to spend precious practice and film time preparing for it, then it's worth it.

It's the kind of thing that's worthless when you're not executing (catching, blocking last week), but is the kind of thing you need to beat more talented teams consistently when you are executing. We're still having trouble with the jump pass, let's leave the advance tricks till after we get the basic ones down.
