Any DC in our future?

We have good talent incoming and returning on defense. It would be a great group for a talented DC. So far, no hires and spring drills will be here before you know it. This makes me think with each passing day and no announcements that English will be back in ‘27 and we’re just going to muddle through without a DC for ‘26. If that is true, why did so many key pieces come back? It’s a weird situation. Has anyone heard anything?

Hey Mr. Bean, I've asked this question of William, Connor, any other moderators, fellas (or ladies) on here, etc. to pass along any update(s). Hints or rumors are allowed. But, nothing but crickets.....a few have stated Coach Ivey or others currently on staff. I'm not up there and we've not heard a whisper down here. I'm traveling over to Murray, Ky. tomorrow. Going to ask a couple of associates over there about a player that's committed here, Roman a current BB player at Murray. Both are Murray boosters and maybe I'll pick-up a whisper or two while there.

Could very well be that Jeff’s going to be our defensive coordinator this year….
That’s kind of what I was afraid of. I admire CJB loyalty to English, but holding his place while he goes and does some personal thing is a disservice to the players who are using their last year of CFB to play here. It also means not giving the defense enough attention or turning Brian loose with the offense. If BB is ready, great. If not, a promising season could come unraveled over personal loyalty to a colleague.

A risky plan, certainly, but maybe Jeff thinks that, in order to become a truly elite head coach, he needs to “learn by doing” and run the defense for this year, in conjunction with Ivey.

I’m going into this year with the thought that this is a 2-year plan. If we’re good enough in 2026 to play our way into a CFP bid, that’s fantastic, but it’s 2027 when we come into the season with a veteran QB (and a head coach with a PHD in offense and a Masters in defense) where we really expect to make a big leap.
