Game report etc.

Game story will be below, but here is what you need to know. The best player on the team is not the TN commit. The best player is Cameren Hill. He is the QB, defensive back, and also kicks. . The QB Hill can throw and run really well, and he is a tough son-of-a-gun. He had a hip pointer in the game a week ago, so he was probably not even at full speed yesterday. Always assume on read-option plays that he is going to keep it. He is way more dangerous than any of the running backs he might give it to. Walker is the best of the backs. The thing that makes Hopewell good is they have a receiver Trevillian who is also tall and athletic, and Hill can hit either of the big receivers in stride even when scrambling for his life. Hill made some plays at defensive back that were amazing due to his size, great jumping ability and timing. Those were touchdowns for Skyline during the regular season.

You might be asking how did Hopewell lose so many games if they are as good as I am making them sound, or why didn't they beat Skyline by more than 3 points? Well, they do make a lot of mistakes. Penalties more than turnovers. Sloppy even more than turnovers. Also, their offensive line left a little to be desired. Skyline was hitting Hill legally and illegally, and he would still make awesome throws while being hit, and would bounce back up for more.

3 yard run by Cameren Hill, kick good 7-0 Hopewell 7:30 1Q

7 yard pass from Corban Ruch to Jamal Parker, kick good 7-7 2:16 1Q

4 yard run by Jerrius Baltimore kick good, Skyline up 14-7 52.9 seconds 2Q

Hill FG as time expires, 14-10 Skyline at half.

11 yard run by Corban Ruch kick good Skyline 21-10 6:35 3Q

33 yard pass Cameren Hill to David Taylor kick good Skyline 21-17 5:42 3Q

1 yard run Ronnie Walker kick good Hopewell 24-21 11:54 4Q

Thanks- I knew Hopewell was better than their record but did not know at all the quality of their QB and and key he is to the entire team. Hard to fiqure from afar as he is only a sophomore and 5'9 and 150 . I guess pounding on him is the key to the game.

Schoolboard, you are right on the mistakes, at least against Dinwiddie. They clearly had the upper hand, and had the game won. One I'll advised pass, and boom.

But, I have a question for you. The week after they lost to us, the big blowout loss. I know enough about Hopewell to know there was no way they just got down on themselves and quit. I asked around and was told that it was grade reports that did them in. But then the next week they were back on track. You can't undo bad grades that quick. I just don't get it. What went on?

Would you say their QB is the key to their offense and did you guys find his option running to be very elusive? On defense is their strength pass defense as Skyline said that needed to put the safety into the box to slow down. Lafayette's version of the wing T uses 3 rb's equally and the big (6'1 205) QB also runs a lot with passing for about a 1000 yards. Our starting defense has only given up 5 TD all year but Hopewells two large receivers and excellent passing/running QB reminds me of JM from last year that caused Lafayette problems on defense. Your thoughts? Good luck against LT- they did not seem unbeatable agsinst lowly Lakeland on Friday. Lafayette moves to 4a next year. Oh boy!

Re: Game report etc.

Grades had nothing to do with it. injuries both going into the game and sustained at the game was a contributing factor. Mistakes..first 3 touches...3 fumbles...20 pts just 2 1/2 minutes in didn't help. Also still down on themselves after Dinwiddie didn't help the confidence. Add in the fact that is was the last home game for Manual. Amazing collection of everything going wrong for one team and everything going right for another. Hopewell is young and scrappy...

Re: Game report etc.

The answer to your question is fairly easy in my opinion. If you cut the head off of the snake, it may keep moving, but it can't hurt you. Easier said than done, he is versatile and an athelete. It's a tough balance. If you try to run blitz, they hit the holes quick and get good yardage. If you sit back and wait for the play to develope, they can get open and get good yardage. Their defensive line is good, tough, and quick. Late in the game, when they had to pass, they made mistakes forcing things. They are not Hugeunot, so you better bring your A game.

Thanks for the good luck with LT. Yes, beatable, but we have to be mistake free and play the best game we have played all season. And, I'm not sure that will be enough. They are the real deal.

Best wishes to you and your team. I hope DevilsLB99 doesn't see me wishing anybody good luck against his alma mater. He may not take kindly to that. But good luck none the less. May the best team win.
