Here's a pretty good write up on the younger kids playing throughout Europe leading up to Olympic Qualifying.

http://www.americansoccernow.com/articles/olympic-qualifying-preview-morris-zelalem-hyndman

Looks like Gideon Zelalem is going on loan from Arsenal to Rangers in Scotland. Though they're currently playing in the 2nd division, it should still be a good experience for him to get some games against first team opponents. I was hoping he would be loaned to a lower EPL or Championship side. Here is a recent winning run/goal he scored for the Arsenal reserves. http://gfycat.com/WarmEqualKawala

There are reports that LA Galaxy's Gyasi Zardes and Belgian club Genk have mutual interest. I would like to see him maybe go to a more prestigious league if he's going to move away from MLS but Genk have a great history of developing young talent.

Never did really get into watching outdoor soccer...loved going to indoor soccer games because of the high scoring. Then my daughter started playing about 4 years ago in a U6 league, and I've slowly gotten a bigger appreciation for the game. She moves up to U10 this fall, after scoring 20 goals in her last U8 league.

And I watched the ManU game yesterday...just something about that Rooney guy that makes me want to punch him in the face.

A move to Rangers is good for Gideon IMO. He won't see the field at Arsenal. I'm hoping Spurs can loan Yedlin out to another team so he can get some playing time.
As and RSL fan, I say Go Gyasi Go! We don't need to see him tearing things up in the Western Conference.

Back to BPL. I'm hoping Spurs can get over the hump this weekend. Leicester isn't very good but I have no faith in Spurs after last weekend's debacle.

It's true Rangers is a historic club but the debate is will the competition in the Scottish 2nd division be any better than what he is currently facing in the English U21 level? Saw an article yesterday that said the Scottish 2nd division is an ugly, physical, grueling league.

LouCity played somewhat soft last night, having trouble getting it upfield for 75% of the game, yet still won 3-1 (and should've won 3-0). 7,850+ in attendance. Good crowd.

I really don't like Cincinnati encroaching on pro soccer. We need to destroy that franchise.

Fondy is a beast, but Scotty Goodwin is the best player on LCFC.

Schalke played Darmstadt to a 1:1 draw yesterday at Veltins. Meh. Dortmund and FC Bayern München both looking strong so far this season. Heh, Die Bayern pulled off a last minute win yesterday with 10 men on the pitch.

I started following Chelsea because their uniforms most resembled UK's. They seem to have a Championship hangover early, but Pedro added some much needed pep today with a goal and assist in his debut. Another awful day for Captain John Terry drawing a red card trying to keep pace with a striker. John Stones or Varane are much needed in their aging back four, hopefully they add one of them and maybe Pogba this week before the transfer window closes. I do like the Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Costa attacking lineup with Falcoa as backup they used today.

I didn't get to watch the Man City game today. I'll have to catch a replay tonight. Nice to see we still haven't allowed a goal. Sounds like we'll either sign De Bruyne within the next couple days or not at all. I don't think we need him to win the Premier League but he could certainly help us in the Champions League.

City look near perfect so far with no goals allowed, Chelsea have conceded 7 already in just 3 matches. It's a long season, the two were tied on New Years day last year before Man City faded but certainly the early leg up with a 5 pt lead out of the gate. Man U still don't seem quite right, no Van Persie or Falcoa this year, lost out on Pedro to Chelsea, and Rooney hasn't scored in 10 games, He was robbed of a goal today though with a wrong offsides call. I play Rooney at Cam on my Fifa Ultimate team and he works great in mid-field muscling possession of the ball away, but not the best finisher any longer.

BTW, having TOTS Dempsey and Giovinco as forwards in FIFA with TOTS Kaka @ CAM is the most fun I've ever had in that game. Kaka is a bad mofo.

Never been a soccer fan but the world cup really got me into it so I decided to pick an epl team. Gf's name was chelsea so that's who I picked. Watched every game on tv and dvr I could. Didn't know all the rules and strategies so I bought fifa and learned so much from that, formations, how transfers worked, etc. I really enjoy the sport, even find myself watching random squads now, not just chelsea.

Surprised Pedro came in and made an impact so early. Ivanovic has looked horrible. I thi,k Jose will get them back into form. Man city looks awesome. Very intrigued by the pogba stuff. Think we end up getting stones. Anybody have any thoughts on those two?

Disappointed that Swansea could not get a win on the road at Sunderland. Still got out of there with a point after a 1-1 tie, but they should have gotten 3 points in that one.

Spurs continue to be Spurs. I expect nothing more than a tie from this team.

I really would like to get into the Budesliga but Fox Sports needs to step up their game. The thing I like about NBC is that I can watch every BPL game either on TV or online. Fox needs to do the same for Budesliga. Who gets FS2? I want to watch BvB but they're never on FS1.

In MLS, RSL got a big win and my Crew also picked up a good win over SKC. LA is beginning to look like MLS Cup champs already and we still have two months left in the season.

I think they need defending help most right now, Man City's Aguero ran wild on the back 4 all day. They want Stones and I think Varane is the backup plan if Everton still refuses to sell Stones. Pogba deal still seems to be in play also as Chelsea agreed to the 69M xfer fee. Cuardrado never seemed to be in Jose's favor and is already being sold to Juventus after just arriving in the January xfer window. They are certainly not standing idly by in their title defense.

It seems like Cuadrado is only going on a season long loan to Juve FOR NOW but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he never suits up for Chelsea again (as long as they have Jose).

The Arsenal-Liverpool game today was a strange one. It really was a good game but nobody could find the finishing touch. That has a lot to do with the performance of both goalkeepers more than anything. I don't know how that Coutinho curler didn't go in even after being tipped by Cech.

Yea 1st half Arsenal Liverpool was better than second, but still a few late chances. That shot Cech finger tipped off corner post was so close. I was busy with work and mostly listened to it streaming in other tab then switched over when announcers got excited.

Listening to FC talk channel on Sirius today and they already have John Terry off to the MLS to finish his career like Drogba. Would make sense, he could anchor a MLS defense for a few years easily and be a big draw for a MLS club. His time as Chelsea Captain and being in Jose' favor is clearly drawing to a close. Mourinho seems to have more drama around him at all times than Jerry Jones.

Had the LCFC-Orlando game going on youtube. Looked like a great atmosphere with over 9,000 in attendance.

Haha funny, looks good in MLS gear. John Stones turned in a transfer request to Everton Tuesday, and Chelsea is preparing a third bid, sounds like the proverbial "done deal". Terry will stay this year though but start yielding playing time to Stones. Maybe next year Terry goes MLS.

Champions League Group Draw

A- PSG, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Malmo
B- PSV, Man Utd, CSKA Moscow, Wolfsburg
C- Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, Astana
D- Juventus, Man City, Sevilla, Mönchengladbach
E- Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, Roma, Bate
F- Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Olympiakos, Dynamo Zagreb
G- Chelsea, Porto, Dynamo Kiev, Tel-Aviv
H- Zenit, Valencia, Lyon, Gent

Top 2 teams should get out of each group. Juventus Man City rematch will be good, PSG Real Madrid huge, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, Man Utd will have a long trip to Russia.
Chelsea had a good draw avoiding Real Madrid on the 2 line, while City, UTD and Arsenal avoided Barcelona on their 1 line.

If MLS expands it will be interesting to see who the new franchises are.

Atlanta joins in 2017. The new LA team joins in 2018.

I think everyone expects that Miami and Minnesota are next in line. That would put MLS at 24.

Rumors of Sacramento, San Antonio, St Louis, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, and Austin all have been rumored expansion targets. Louisville has very high attendance and hasn't been shy about wanting MLS. Neither has Cincinnati.

32 actually seems reasonable if the MLS can maintain this momentum and become profitable. For those of us here locally, I think we'll have at least 1 MLS team by 2022, hopefully 2. I don't know how you can expect more than 2 of Indy, Louisville, Cincinnati, and St Louis to get teams though. It will likely be a race for new stadiums and powerful ownerships. Kind of a fun time.

Outside of people saying "hey, St. Louis would be nice" I haven't seen any real stories about movement toward MLS in that city. Sure, the Rams mentioned it but that was to get a new stadium (they're moving to LA anyway). Cincinnati has the advantage of being a bigger media market than Louisville and having a very rich owner. Louisville has the advantage of not having any other major league teams in the city.

That being said, there's no reason you can't go past 30-32 teams in the league.

The MLS commissioner recently was in St Louis to talk to the governor of Missouri, mayor of St Louis, and the head finance team about building a stadium there. I know a lot of former US soccer players are from there so they'd have that as well.

20 Team MLS league 1 and 16-20 more teams in MLS 2, relegate bottom 3 of top tier, and promote top 3 of second tier like EPL. Whichever cities want it most would thrive.

I've seen some detractors from promotion/relegation in this thread, but it's how pro sports should be IMO

Promotion/Relegation simply won't work in the MLS until teams have independent ownership and control regarding players and wages. United States sports have an unusual fascination with parity; every draft in US professional sports are based, in part, on how the team performs in the season. Another thing that's holding the MLS back is that the CONCACAF Champions League just isn't a big money maker.

I agree in theory that there should be a MLS 1 and MLS 2 with promotion and relegation, but I think it's a long way off until that happens.
