ever seen Eliot Varney pitch? Someone told me that he is going to to State next year to play baseball. Not sure if they meant as an invited walk-on or what.

I did find out that he is a RH pitcher that has a fastball that tops out at 89 MPH.

Either way, good kid, good arm. Plays at a small school but has done well on the summer circuit, even played on a wooden bat team. He doesn't have a good secondary pitch so he'll be a project but as an invited walk-on he's certainly a deal.

And his mechanics need a little work to. I'm think he'll be a walk-on because if his family can afford St. Andrew's, they can probably afford MSU, and I would also venture to guess that there's a better than average chance that he can get an academic scholarship as well.

Thanks for the info!

and good friends with his older brother Jonathan, who goes to Ole Miss. He transferred in from MRA after I graduated, but I have heard good things. He has the frame of a D-1 athlete.

Crosswhite has made everyone petrified at the thought of anyone who has ever attended MRA pitching for us.

I know the family, and there is no 'financial' issue of him not getting a scholarship. He aslo played QB at St Andrews-maybe he can throw a 9 yard slant!

If you ever meet anyone from Carthage and tell them you're from the Madison area, the next question every time is "Do you know Chad Crosswhite?"

and can vouch he has the stature of a D-1 player, however he broke his back last fall playing football. Im not sure how his recovery has been, although his brother told me he is back to 100%. He played baseball with my brother, and the few games I saw he smashed a few bombs over center.
