I thought I read somewhere that the cast would come off Dec 26 and the injury would be re-evaluated. Has anyone heard anything?

Yeah, end of January seems a little optimistic. I'm hoping mid-February, but that may be overzealous too.

I was wondering too. During last nights game ESPN showed a picture of him and underneath it said out for the season.

I had a little smug pride in knowing they were wrong before they came back from commercial and corrected it, which --by the way -- I give them props for. There are a handful to a boatload of incorrect comments every game, and you just know someone is yelling, "No, you dummy!" In their earpiece, but they never actually correct themselves.

I don't know any precise timeline for his return, but I know it isn't already determined to be the rest of the season. Another month is a persistent rumor, though everyone is pretty mum about it.

Another error is having Anish Shroff commentating......brutal

So true. I like Cory Alexander (his partner), accept the part where the Elon guy dunked kind of over Thornton and he said that they had all the highlights of the night despite being down 40.

Yea Cory Alexander is usually pretty good, but when he made that comment I was like really? We scored 70 first half points and that was the highlight of the game? It was an average dunk and not even over Thornton, and he made a huge deal over it.

Meh. It was a good dunk in a game that was pretty boring as far as any suspense goes. Basketball purists or/and curmudgeons know that being "posterized" means you were attempting to play D like you ought to, but on a visceral level, we all know it highlights your failings in that endeavor, so I don't begrudge a little banter about it.

Thanks for the update on Amile guys, even though we all know any speculation is just that, speculation.
I feel so bad for him when they show him on the bench, you can tell he is getting stir crazy! I hope he doesn't bite one of his fingers off, if you notice, he chews on them when the game is tight :)!
Hopefully, when he does come back, he can be close to where he was (and I think he will), Duke will be a very dangerous team in March/April. At the present pace, the rate of improvement is looking good.
Go Duke!!

I don't know if we'll be lucky to have him back by then, but fortunate is a word that comes to mind. I'm afraid it could still be a while.

I'm with topps if it's that long he'll redshirt or should
I agree. But would he want to?

A glance at a couple of mocks shows that he isn't listed. He's good enough to play for pay. Maybe not the NBA, but somewhere.

I'd think he'd want to give the scouts the best possible impression - which he won't be able to do if he's out a couple of months and then has to ease back into the lineup with limited minutes and limited mobility at first.

If he's back this month or even mid-Feb, that probably isn't an issue. Any longer than that and he's probably better off sitting the season out and coming back for a full year.

I assume you guys would be happy to have him back next year.

Even G-Man said something that was not even close to accurate about Duke. It amazes me what these announcers don't know about the teams they are talking about.

I think this debate could be see from many angles. Could he benefit from another year of being healthy and playing next to Giles, sure. Would this improve his draft stock, not sure. Would he want to stay another year in college

He'd be 100%. Duke isn't going to bring him back if he's not. But, that doesn't mean he'd play like he's 100%. Players aren't out for 2+ months, with a leg or foot injury, and back in the swing of things right away. Just isn't possible.

Even Ryan Kelly with his 36 point game against Miami wasn't the same for the remainder of Duke's season.

The good thing about Amile is that his game wasn't predicated on speed or jumping ability. And unlike Ryan he's not a jump shooter that needs to create space. His game is strongly based on his length and positioning. So while he probably will lose some rebound battles he once was able to win, he'll still be able to outsmart and out-position most opponents.

Of course everything depends on what Amile wants but for me I would like to see him RS if he misses the next ten games.Imo he will not be able to help us due to rust if it goes longer than that

Carlos missed six, maybe seven games. He wasn't even out a full month. Amile might be out two, going on three months. That's a pretty significant time and 3-4x longer than Boozer. You can ride stationery bikes and run in a pool all you want, but you're going to lose stamina in that long of a layoff. There's no way to match the game intensity. That was my main point.

Very true. I just couldn't help but think of him. But you are right, big difference in time missed and talent for that matter.

Boozer didn't perform so hot in his first two games back, against UCLA and USC. He averaged 22 minutes a game and scored a combined 3 points. He played well in the Final Four though, and we probably wouldn't have beaten Maryland without his efforts. But yes, his first two games back he was VERY rusty.

So this thread is a downer. I feel really bad for Amile. This was a crap hand (ankle) he was dealt. He deserved better. He has been coached to think about the next play. I have a feeling he will rise above this.

If it's mid February that would be grea. It would give him 2-3 weeks of regular season games to knock off the rust and get back into game shape. I was never expecting him to be very good in his initial games back which is why I was hoping his first games would not be tournament games.
