you would step out on that ledge my friend. (I'm just kidding)

Yes, I agree that there are much better bands out that they could have gotten.

.....at the Hard Rock Cafe Rockfest at Atlanta Motor Speedway. That was a good show, damn it's been a decade, it was in 1999. The Offspring, Live, Third Eye Blind, Collective Soul, Sugar Ray, Everlast, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Silverchair, Better Than Ezra, Eve 6, Marvelous 3, Citizen King, and Taxiride.

Not saying that they'll be great, but they were good that day in the ATL.

Here's the Bash's website

http://www.msubulldogbash.org/bandbios.html</p>Glad to see they scheduled it for the first home SEC game. bad decision when they hosted it for the Gardner Webb game.

right up there with Fuel, Matchbox 20, and all the other lame post-grunge acts now having trouble paying down their mortgages. I guess the decision was made to go with name recognition as opposed to an up and coming indie act.</p>

Much better than Sister Hazel or whatever other ******** headlining acts we've trotted out in the past 5 years. Third Eye Blind will be entertaining and will bring people out on its name alone. It will be fun/funny to hear them play their late 90's hits. Find something else to ***** about.

Where do we get these people that plan these events? Seriously, the Ninj-er needs to judy chop these folks.

Give me something different than this same ol' ****. We must have a really limited budget, and I admit I know nothing about how much a real band would cost - but Jubilee Jam seems to have the same problem. We just suffer from a serious live music deficiency in this state. At least The Lyric in Oxford is pulling in some acts.

Modest Mouse, The Shins, Ryan Adams, Ray Lamontagne, JJ Cale, Kings of Leon, Matisyahu would be sick, even some more heady bands like String Cheese, Galactic (I mean it is a college town), MGMT, My Morning Jacket, Drive By Truckers, even something borderline gay like Jason Mraz or John Mayer - at least that would reel in females in boatloads. For those that like country, Zac Brown would be a great get. Getting a really good DJ like Girl Talk (on a side stage) would be a good idea too if they really want to make it a "Bash."

I realize music is the most subjective thing in the world, but come on - at least get with the times.

17'n terrible.
I mean they dont have to book the best band in the world to come play, but this choice is a joke. They had a couple of hits(that i cant even name) in the late 90's. Once again terrible.

You've assumed that MSU students have similar tastes in music as other college students outside Mississippi. I like your list. But, if it ain't nashville country, the flavor of the week slit-my-wrists hard rock ******** (think shinedown, chevelle, etc.) or R&B/Rap, it's not going to fly in Starkville in a festival setup.

get Of Montreal's stage show. I can only imagine the letters to the editor for the SDN.

As much as I would enjoy a new hot indie act (Avett Brothers, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Cold War Kids, Manchester Orchestra etc) I don't think it fits the mold.

They need to grab a classic rock act and be done with it. Throw the doobie brothers up there. Just someone with name recognition for most folks.

Really suprised there isn't a thread bitching about why MSU can't pull Pearl Jam or Them Crooked Vultures.

These threads always interest me, because I honestly don't know what acts people think we can lure to Starkville for Bulldog Bash. Maybe we should have an SPS write-in poll. I just don't think the money is there to reel in a big-time act; therefore, I think Third Eye Blind is a decent choice.

There is a band coming to Rick's on October 23 named the Randy Rogers Band. Maybe they should've incorporated them into the Bash. They are a Texas Country (aka Red Dirt Music) group. Knowing that music is very subjective, they are actually pretty kick ***. I'll be there in October to see them. I also realize that I'm one of the few people in this state that actually know who they are.

I like Third Eye Blind. They're the best we've brought to this thing in the last 5 years I've been a student. They have a new CD out thats gotten good reviews.

They sing about getting wasted and women. I happen to be a big fan of both. Guess thats just me though, douches..

It was mostly just a remark about his avatar. I also don't agree with the whole theory about quality music not flying here and just having to live with ****** music(gaven degraw, third eye blind) music makers seems to get most years (aside from the wailers a couple of years back). I'm not saying we go out and get quality indie music that most have never heard of before. But I would think that it wouldn't be too hard to get music of the quality that The Lyric in Oxford can pull in (Andrew Bird, Wilco, Modest Mouse).

I agree with wbc40, the people who are in charge of getting these bands are not the coolest people on campus. They are the people that kiss everyones *** to get a vote to get some pointless college posistion, so I for one am pleased that the doo-gooders could actually get a somewhat decent band. I mean you cant really expect people who dont go out or have vaulable social lives to be able to go out and get a really good popular band

it wouldn't take much to get bands like the Lost Immigrants, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Casey Donahew Band, etc. Zac Brown would be good as would Eli Young Band. A lot of these Texas acts play colleges. Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, Wade Bowen and the like have all made live albums at colleges (Tarleton State, Stephen F. Austin, even Southwest Baptist College in Georgetown, TX). I think they would appeal here especially when a lot of their songs deal with drinking, smoking, sex, and drugs.

Probably all of you bitching in this thread are still in school. None of you have serious jobs or wives. You don't have kids you worry about every day and that force you to wake up at 5:30 (in the morning, btw) just to get them ready for the day and get them to school. You don't have a mortgage and insurance payments and you have no real idea just how scary today's economy is past what it may be doing to beer prices at Coconuts. Your only real worry is what you're going to have for lunch at 2 o'clock this afternoon and where the road blocks may be tonight.

Then, just when you'd think Shangri-La couldn't get any better , somebody is going to be nice enough to throw you a FREE party. No cover. Zilch. They're not even going to card you at the door. That's right. No matter how many pimples you have on your face, you're in like Flynn. You can walk down the street with your beer in your cup like you own the joint. But instead of just saying thank you and being on your way... you jump on a message board and complain about the band. Are you 17'in kidding me?

Look, I know perspective is a rare commodity at age 20. I didn't have much either. But please don't run down the organizers of a free party just because they didn't line up whatever pop tart is playing on your iPod these days. You'd be better served to worry about what the weather will be like that night and pray the temperatures are still warm enough for the girls to wear the really inappropriate stuff.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just
.

Great for a bash atmosphere.

As for anyone suggesting the money isn't there... well, it's not a ridiculous figure that they have to work with, but it's just as manageable as anything The Lyric in Oxford or Rick's in Starkville has when they get big acts. Probably even more. The thing is, most of the time the aim is to make the line-up as eclectic as possible while still putting a generic, safe-bet act on as the headliner. It's no excuse in not getting a major current act, but perhaps it keeps the committee (or whoever the hell makes these lame decisions) from going after someone like the bands mentioned. At least, that was the case when I was there.

Third Eye Blind isn't ideal, but they won't be all that bad. It's the Bash. Pretty hard to not enjoy yourself in the District that night.

Embarasses us routinely in the area of live music. It's not even close and something should be done about it. Routinely, most especially with Bulldog Bash, the organizers never fail to sign the lamest headliner possible.Score one again. Meanwhile, the Lyric has a lineup that equals what I can go see in Atlanta. I'm going to WEEN at the Lyric in October and I'd do just about anything for that to be in Starkville. Alas.

Please somebody give Starkville a musical enema.

Ok, maybe not for you younger guys... but I imagine they have a lot of fans in the 30ish crowd. I've always been a big fan of that first album. Not so much the hit songs, but the other stuff. Those last 3-4 songs have always been my favorites from them. Can't say much for the other two albums.</p>

</p>

But I see where students wouldn't be thrilled with third eye blind. That'd be like them bringing in a washed up 80s band when I was at State in 01-04.</p>

Thank you, Byrne4Heisman. This is by far the best band we have had at this thing. Third Eye Blind is one of my favorite bands, they put on a great show.

The lyric gets a bunch of nice bands to play there, but they are a bunch of hippie music snobs that book these bands when they are still up and coming. Tours play a huge part in scheduling Bulldog Bash. Kings of Leon is on a huge tour right now, I'm sure that Friday night they are going to be playing in front of 40,000+. Third Eye Blind is a huge draw, much better than Gavin DeGraw or Sister Hazel. Andrew Bird, Wilco, and Modest Mouse are all good, but I doubt half the students at MSU know who all three of them are. Are you kidding me? It's all about getting as many people there as possible, and Third Eye Blind is the best choice this year. If I wasn't moving to Chicago in a couple of days, I would be there guns a-blazing.

Third Eye Blind's new cd kick ***, by the way.

Lastly, how many of you actually stand around that stage and watch the music? For me, by the time the headlining band comes out, I am three sheets to the wind and just wandering around aimlessly talking to people I haven't seen in years.

You guys are <17>ing pathetic. You know this is a FREE event, right? You know every penny to put it on is raised by students, right? They raised more money than ever this year in a ****** economy so that you ingrates can have fun on the Friday before the LSU game. Have you looked at what bands cost lately? Ryan Adams? Give me a break. He's great, but he probably runs close to $200K for a night.

Sure Third Eye Blind and Sister Hazel are has-beens, but they're a hell of a lot better than nothing. You realize the headline act at the first Bulldog Bash was Ingram Hill. I think the SA has come a long way in building this thing from scratch, creating a fun tradition out of thin air. And all you guys can do is get on here and ***** because they didn't get Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zepplin. Losers.

By the way, Third Eye Blind is launching their first album in six years, and this is the debut show of their release tour. Sounds pretty cool to me.

You can't compare Bash to the acts that come to the Lyric. If you wanna ***** to someone about that, call up Rick's and tell them they're getting bounded in the 'good live music' category. The Bash is student funded, the Lyric bringing all their acts in for profit.

The SA would NEVER bring a band like Ween, Wilco, DrivebyTruckers, Keller, Hill Country Review, Modest Mouse, Umphrey's, John Butler, because probably less than <20% of the students listen to them. I do, but they're aiming for the masses.

Thats why you're gonna get either a late 90s band or some up and coming American Idol winner. Third Eye Blind is gonna be good. Go get their new CD or Out of the Vein. It's good stuff...

Third Eye Blind - New Album is #1 on I Tunes. They are a great alternative band that appeal to 20s to 40 s crowd. Who are they gonna get Fall Out Boy and watch as 57 people show up. Get a Clue - Spares.....
