Anybody else noticed Rosebowl's huge confession on the Lake?

i respect him for it

Hey man, good for him and all, but going public like that?

and dont think its that big of a deal. Ive known a few other recovering addicts who have told their 'story' to others in public forums. Sometimes it helps others not to get caught in the pitfalls of drug and alcohol abuse.

It was sincere and I applaud him. Hopefully he can help someone else who has endured the same disease.

Good for him but there are plenty of feel good stories out there. It has nothing to do with sports.

I read it and had my 18 year old daughter read it too. It was a well written

story and the only intention I saw in it was for good. The grace of god is nothing to
take for granted and picking ones self up from the ashes and making something positive
out of a life headed for ruin is to be admired. It doesn't really change the way I feel about
Rosebowl and I don't think anyone should see the article as negative or
self serving. I think he was trying to help others, a noble effort.

I thought it was very heart warming and a great testimony. I really enjoyed reading it.

At the same time, I feel as if the amount of business he has lost recently is probably what finally made him feel as if it was time to write it. Not to take anything away from the article though.

Thanks for this post, Coach...

After almost 18 years of sobriety, I recently found myself telling my version of this story. It was only to two people and because one of them began to ask me questions. I don't know what Steve's motivation was, but I think it was probably for good...who knows what the impact may be for some reader(s).

I can say, for me, that telling my story occasionally does ME a tremendous amount of good. It makes me stop and remember where I was, what happened to me in the process of getting sober, and puts me back in a place of gratitude for the life I have now. I'm not sure what prompted him to do this in such a public way, but I don't really need to know that...and I'm pretty sure there was a positive impact for at least one person.

It took guts. He didn't sugar coat anything to spare himself. I'm sure there are many that can relate to his journey.

I read it, and I think it took a lot of ....

courage to post that for everyone to read. I'm certainly not going to tear him down because of it. I wish him the best and I'm glad he was able to turn his life around.

The grandmother in the story just passed away. In her 90's I think. Probably had something to do with Him writing the story.

Just read it. I concur with those who respect him for it. Whatever reason he had to go public is his. It was a good read. It hit closer to home than I want to admit.

On a side note, I'm glad I finally figured out who "Rosebowl" is.

Well worth the read

Outside of what floats around on the net, I don't know much about Rosebowl. But the article made me respect him for his determination to overcome life circumstances.

He didn't flatter himself in the least bit. He stated publicly his nefarious developmental years and then proceeded to praise the people that made him want to change. Not a bad way to say thank you around St. Val's Day.

You have to have tremendous respect for a man who will write a story like that about themselves. You never know what other lives you may impact by putting a confession like that on a public forum. I hope he continues to have success.

The big question is will Porter now tell his story of how his dad was taken out in a drug hit and disappeared over the Gulf, thus forcing him to a life of drugs and lying. He and Steve can then compare drug notes I guess. **
But seriously, props to Steve for making it through all that.

Still there when I read it late yesterday

Might have been removed since then. There's a link somewhere in this thread ... did you see it and try it?

Good for him. He's working the program of recovery. I have been living one day at a time for over 19 years.

Thanks, Rocket.

I found the link, and actually shared it with my son, who read it all.
You and I have known a lot of interesting personalities during our 40 years together here in HSV, but RoseBowl has material for a novel, and a movie.

I am intrigued that he'd post all that on the interweb, just throw it out there and all that.
Don't know whether to respect his testicular fortitude for his openess, sharing his faith (which I totally endorse),
or fail to respect his lack of personal privacy for his family.

Whatever. Intriguing auto-bio, indeed.

I lean toward respecting him for it. It must be something he felt he needed to do, and if so, that's fine with me. And I don't even know the guy.

And yes, we have indeed known some interesting people. Takes all kinds.
