I saw a couple innings and couldn't tell who most of the new players are since they don't have names on their jerseys yet. All I noticed was we probably won't be relying on Brayden Jones and McHenry to pitch much except for midweek games. Jones had a decent at bat though and is the guy who hit the one home run in the first few scrimmages so he is probably more of an infielder than a pitcher. The new batslooked as bad as everyone on here said they might be. Collins hit one off the wall and that was the only ball that came close to leaving the park. Freeman was at first instead of catcher, Henderson played second, and Norris played third.

but there's one thing I've learned about college baseball, and that's that you CANNOT, under any circumstance, judge who will play by summer and fall ball. The studs will be studs no matter what. See Bradford and Renfroe.

Ricky Bowen is another example. All I've ever gotten out of watching a scrimmage was seeing how much potential and athletic abilitiy a player might have.</p>

Scrimmages- someone does something good, that also means someone did something bad.

I doubt that Brayden will pitch for us at all, and Brandon McHenry is a walk-on that probably won't play very much if he makes the team.

Brayden has actually hit two home runs now, and I think David Bishop has hit two as well. I know Bishop has at least one.

Scrimmage stats are basically worthless. Reason I say that is because sometimes they start off with like a 2-1 count or whatever, and then sometimes they tell the pitchers to do certain things, so it's not really a "game like" condition even. And then sometimes they are facing walk-ons and such as well- and sometimes the pitchers are facing walk-on hitters.

Honestly, I really think the biggest thing right now is to go into the season healthy with the pitching staff and to stay healthy. I think we may struggle at times at the plate, but that's because we have a lot of young hitters. But if Stratton and Routt perform like they can and make improvements, we will be fine. I think Devin Jones is going to be a big key for our team next year as well.

This is the only thing in my mind right now. Cohen's had 3 years to get the pitching problem remedied.

I hope I am wrong, but if everything falls into place,I am hopingwe will be a .500 SEC team (without looking at what the rest of the conference brings back). As good as Stratton looked for a freshman and as good as we have seen Routt look in the past, they are about like the rest of the league's top two pitchers on average and no better. And there are too many new/unproven bats in the lineup as well. Look folks, as far as I can tell, we don't have any top 3 round draft picks that decided to go to school like lsu or south carolina or florida. I am amazed at the number of people that post on this board who appear to have no understanding of sports in general. To say that Cohen has had three years to fix the pitching problems is a ridiculous statement. especially considering the injured arms that came to campus already injured.
