Veasey tweeted a link to his article in the CA about Liberty Bowl. I do not subscribe to the paper. It teased that the liberty bowl could take MSU. Anybody read it? And what did it say? Desoto county dog?

Sorry ...

As long as the CA is behind a 'PayWall," will not be reading anything by Veasey except his tweets. At least he warns everyone ($) when he posts a link.

He said all signs point to State in the liberty bowl. Add the fact that its the 50th anniversary of state playing in the 63 liberty bowl. Compass and liberty share the pick so Vandy easily could end up in Birmingham

Wow. 8-4 Vandy might go to Birmingham. If somehow Vandy gets the Music City and Liberty takes us - Ole Miss might end up in Birmingham aGAIN.

Vandy played in the Music last year. The Music doesn't want to take Vandy any year. But Vandy in the Music not outside the realm of possibility.

I'll be surprised if Slive lets the Liberty bypass an 8-4 Vandy to take us at 6-6. Guess we will see though.

He says also:

Basically it boils down to this. Vandy was in MC last year, liberty two years ago. Ole miss was in bbva last year. State was in MC a couple of years ago. So, OM to MC, State to Liberty, Vandy to BBVA.

There should be a rule against taking a team over another team that has a better overall record AND a better conference record unless the better team agrees to it. Bowl selections based on $$$ make it that much harder for programs like ours to break the status quo.

I've seen a few projections putting UGA in the MCB, and Vandy going to the Gator. I think that could help our chances for going to the Liberty Bowl. I don't see how Vandy could drop down to B'ham, and they really don't deserve it.

I would think fan support has a lot to do with Veazey's conclusion. Vandy fans don't show up for homes games, let alone travel well. The bowls know we will travel well, and will overstuff the Liberty Bowl as in the past.

I think part of what is being missed here is that while you may consider the BBVA Compass the lowest bowl, they actually SHARE the pick with Memphis. In the eyes of the SEC, these bowls are equal. So, sending Vandy to Bham vs Memphis is no slight to the league. It's the same.

I think that would boil down to MSU/UM to Music City, Vandy/UM to Liberty, and MSU/Vandy to BBVA then.

I agree. That's one of my major issues with college athletics in general. Everything is such a cash grab but they're always quick to talk about integrity when we know that it doesn't matter. At least be honest about it or try to have a system where integrity does matter and teams get exactly what they deserve. Creating all of this drama is unnecessary.

I'm gonna dream about 8-4 Vandy to Gator, 8-4 Georgia to Music City, 7-5 Ole Miss to Compass, and 6-6 State to Liberty.

Yes, it's possibly but highly unlikely. Sort of like running a missed FG back in the last second to win.

If that happened, I would quite enjoy watching the internet melt with Ole Miss and UGA fans having conniption fits.

There is a .01% chance of Vandy being chosen over UGA for the Gator. Any bowl actually. No bowl will actively pursue Vandy over any SEC team. They just don't have enough fan support.

They're having the greatest run they've had in my lifetime, and can't even come close to filling their small stadium.

Not only that, but their season ticket sales dropped this year. They apparently raised their prices (not sure if PSL or face on the ticket), and a number of older fans bailed. Franklin wasn't happy about that at all.

I think there IS a rule against a bowl selecting a 6-6 team if there is still a team with a winning record available for them. At least that was the deal back in 2007 when we still needed Alabama to lose to Auburn to ensure we would go to a better bowl than them.

Although I think the last 3 SEC bowls essentially pick simultaneously, so the rule doesn't really apply.
