Tonight during GW's 38-15 win over Tunstall, Kweshaun Forest (know I'm killing my man's first name) ran for 296 yards. With that I'm thinking he's leading the state in rushing in all classes. His 4th 200 Rushing game this year (had a 300 yard game last week). Does anybody know the official state rushing numbers?

easy answer - nope.
no state numbers are kept by anyone.
some areas have a daily that keeps up with their area, but no one has tried to keep up with it state-wide, unless Marshall Johnson at the AP did when he was still alive.
A few years ago, we had a LOT of ppl. on these boards that could update the local stars, but not anymore. Heck, look at how dead the 5A & 6A boards are,

Sadly you're so right! I do remember a couple of the newspapers who'd keep us updated, but that was probably 10 years ago. Oh well! Thanks anyway for the reply!

I know of one kid doing well in NOVA. Lamont Atkins from Lake Braddock (6A) has 920 yards in 5 games. Nobody else really close to that up here.
Thanks falcettik. I'm guessing the kid from GW Danville is leading the state. He's already over 1000 yards for the season. Maybe a kid in far SWVA has something in that range but I'm not sure.

The Roanoke Times list Stat leaders every Friday. I think both the Pilot and Times Dispatch used to do the same but not sure anymore. For Times land 5 guys over 800 going in to last night led by Pulaski's Hunter Thomas at 923. About 230 per game. Thomas held to 74 last night while Basham went for around 189 and Overstreet around 100. Not sure of Staples (Liberty) or Peoples (Galax) but, with weather and opponents I would guess they were both held below their average as well. Leading the state in rushing makes for message board discussion but, have to be careful in interpreting because of different classifications, level of competition and size of workload which is why you here some coaches focus a little more on yards per carry.

Workload is always telling. If your D is a sieve and your QB has a noodle for an arm then a good RB getting 25-30 carries a game will pile up serious numbers almost through brute force. I've seen kids getting 5-6ypc(a below-average number for a good RB) rack up 200 yards a game because their coach ran them to death and got them 35, 40, sometimes 45 carries. If your D is stout and your QB can throw and there's depth at your position you may get 10 carries before the game is out of reach and your coach sits you. Coleman Fox, one of the better backs to ever suit up for Salem, only averaged about 110-120ypg during his junior and senior seasons on about 9-10ypc but when games are 35-0, 49-0 at half then what chance do kids like that get to really stretch out and get into a groove? Fox was a kid who would have challenged and broken records at Salem but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
