On some IFS systems, the x-fer case is constantly engaged and the ADD (auto diff disconnect) mechanism is what engages the front part of the drive train... Toyota does this... Chevy may do it, too, I don't know, I don't ******* touch GM. I have standards.
My man, people still buy Jeeps even though they are widely known as one of the worst manufacturers for overall quality.

You guys can drive them all, I'll provide no resistance, just passing along info. Personally, I wouldn't take one unless it came stuffed with cash. I;ve seen the opposite end of that longevity spectrum. I liken Chevy truck drivers to Chrysler minivan drivers - You're either driving it b/c you have to or you've just been extremely lucky with the brand up to this point.

In all cirrusness, you do have good points. I'm partial to GM for several reasons including one of my best friends owning a Chevy dealership and I just like them. Have had problems with my Silverado sure, that said I had an F150 that caused me to lose faith in humanity.
GM does some dumb stuff and is generally behind Ford in tech and ingenuity but still makes trucks that I personally like. Toyota makes great vehicles across the board, a Tundra crew at 1600# payload just isn't enough for work imo.
Be nice if GM would......make the 6.2 more readily available, upgrade their terrible headlights on higher trims, fix the AFM/lifter problem, fix the shake and buffeting problems in the Tahoe/Yukon/Esc......and finally, have a bit more imagination with their offerings.

Does it have the 327 engine? If so, that is a very good engine. I have an '07 and have very pleased with it so far.

Who makes the best truck now? I've thought about buying a pick-up for house work, and I can never get a straight answer on who the top dog is now. One guy says "There's a reason no one turns in their Ram".. another guy swears by Toyota right now. I keep hearing Ford is great and then Ford is bad.

I've ever seen a Toyota truck on a used car lot. If I had the money I'd have a Tacoma. As it is, my 2001 S10 will suffice.
So my worry is repair costs. I've heard Fords have rust issues, and their recent line has aluminum bedding which punctures easily?
Another route is to buy a 5-10 year old truck. I don't need any bells and whistles. Just work, work in the snow, haul some ****, etc.

I've had a Ford, a Dodge Ram, and a Chevy. Do not get a Dodge Ram with 4.7 Magnum engine. I would suggest you get the Hemi if you go Ram. Look for the 5.3 327 engine for Chevy. Very good engine and above average gas mileage. Ford I had was a F150. Very good truck as well.
My personal rank would be Chevy (327 engine) Ford F150, then Ram (Hemingway engine) each truck has/had features I liked.

I bought a 2014 F-150 about a year ago. I love it, but will have to wait a few more years before I can comment on it's longevity. That said almost everyone that buys trucks for work purposes or for fleet vehicles buys a Ford. There is something to that imo. All 3 US brands are in the top 10 of most vehicles on the road with 200,000 miles in the US though so you're not choosing between something that sucks and something that is awesome, you're choosing between good and slightly better.
The LS-based GM 5.3 engine is not 327 cubic inches. It's 325.
6.0 over the 5.3 all day long unless you want to slap some turbos on it and hit the dragstrip. The 4l80 transmission behind the 6.0's is bulletproof.

I guess they technically still call it a 327. But the 350 they used to use was a Hoss too. Toyota has it now I think in their Tundra.
Just because it's the same size doesn't mean it's the same engine. Nothing the same about a GM vs Nissan V8.
Anyone who has a GM LS-based engine should take it to a tuner, pay them a little bit to plug in a laptop, hit a few keystrokes and unlock a lot of extra power.
My son has an '06 he bought used. Great truck mechanically, hasn't had any problems in around 100,000 miles, but the body has turned into a rust bucket. My BIL has a'10 model that he had patch panels put in over the rear wheel wells. Toyota replaced the frames under lots of Tacoma's, looks like GM could help with rust issues as well.
The early 2nd gen Tacoma frame rust issues were due to improper protective covering/layering on the frames (which were built in Mexico) and then shipped by rail (uncovered) to the NUMMI factory in Fremont, CA. The trip literally sandblasted the protective coating and the finish off the frames. It wasn't caught until halfway into the second year of production. Of course, NUMMI is now defunct and this is no longer a logistic issue for Toyota.
If you were very lucky and got one of the earliest 2nd gen trucks, those frames where trucked to NUMMI before the rail shipment line was established.
If you have a first gen Tacoma ('95-2004)... hold on to that sucker like it is gold.

Hard to say. Ram with hemi has always been great. Terrible resell. Chevy.. meh. Ford.. all ford products have been slipping last 5 -10 years. Toyota Tacoma is a more desirable than tundra I tell ya nissan introduced the titan XD. Looks great and has an optional cummins diesel. It's also 100% manufactured in the US of A

I own a taco and a tundra. I need the Tundra to haul my Taco to the trail so I can recover Jeeps, hummers and chevys.
