It was hidden in a post on the pay board concering coaching changes, basically says that Croom looks to moving more and more to a change in offensive philosophy.

Thoughts?

I don't think that a change in offensive philosophy alone will solve the problem. McCorvey ran a different offense at Bama and sucked there to- with the offense that he supposedly knew how to run. If we ran a different offense, we would have different plays, but still with the same ****** play calling.

The bottom line here is this:

1. Change OC.
2. Replace him with a good playcaller who can develop QB's.
3. Change the scheme as so desired.

I think what you will see based on what I have heard is a new offensive scheme with the same coaches in place next year.

If you let Croom bring in a new OC you almost have to give him two more years, Greg, is smart, but money is tight when it comes to buying Croom and company out, he will most likly sign off on this agreement that Croom change the direction of the offense with the same personel. After we win 3 or 4 games next year Byrne fires Croom and company and we get a compentant head coach

what is the new scheme going to be?

I sincerely hope that Byrne is not stupid enough to fall for this. If Croom pulls this off, I'll know why they call him "Sly".

Lets see, a former college and pro QB who broke records in college, was a 2 time Heisman candidate, was an OC at OU when they scored a buttload of points, was also a QB coach at OU whose QB came in 2nd in the Heisman voting. Nah, we don't need anyone like that with Tyler Russell coming in. I'm sure Croom and Woody will have him putting up Marino-ish numbers by the 3rd game next year.

Long would be one of the names on the top of my list, but he is headed to KSU with Synder. If Croom was smart, which he is not, the OC he should hire is Dana Holgerson at Houston. We visted there this spring, and he coached at MC.

I just refuse to believe Woody will be back next year. There is no way in hell Byrne can allow that to happen

Struggling coaches are fired every year after bringing in a new OC or DC. It sure as hell didn't stop us from firing Jackie Sherrill in 2003 even though he brought in both a new OC and a new DC. 2009 won't be any different.

Why? How was Ga Tech able to go from a pro style offense to the veer in 1 year? If you have a good coach with a good system- thats all it takes. Next season is Crooms last season PERIOD. Five losing seasons in 6 years will be enough for everybody.

Totally agreed. I can't see anyone with half a brain arguing against firing him after that. Really, he should be canned this year, but he won't be.

My point was that if you hire a new OC the administraion may give Croom a longer lease. C34 I understand what you are saying, and other first year coaches have been successful. I have thought since Crooms first year we had the talent to run the spread option, and with the WR and OL we have coming back next year a version of the Spread would work.

Now,Let me say that I in NO WAY want McCorvey back, nor do I want Croom back. Fact is Byrne is going to make a decsion that is best for MSU both on the field and ecomomiclly, and from what I have heard the reality is we may not have the money to buy out Croom. So, how do hold his feet to fire and demand staff changes if he knows you cannot buy him out? If you are Bryne you let Croom coach in 2009 but put a stipulation on him that if he doesn't have MSU in a bowl game he is gone. I really cannot see how Croom is not the coach in 09 unless he resigns.

e-mail Greg Byrne because MSU lost people, but if we make NO staff changes in football, I'm going to need an explanation. Whether we change our offensive scheme or not.

what Croom thinks is going to happen and what Byrne thinks is going to happen. And that could be why there are different stories floating around.
I find it hard to believe that buyout money would prevent us from making at least coordinator changes. Especially with the new ESPN deal.

Like I said, if you're in charge of someone and you know that in two weeks you are going to have to fire them, you're not going to tell the employee that you're going to fire them in two weeks.

the money IS THERE...the question is whether Byrne wants to go that route...You are right about Byrne being a smart man and I also think Baja had a great point- there are lots of different stories because Byrne and Crooms may be miles apart as to what they want to happen. Byrne is not going to tip his hand before he has to, and Crooms thinks what he is doing is working and refuses to change.

we shall see...losing by 14-20 points Friday will make this more interesting I assure you

of Croom returning (I don't care what other changes are made), that I'm starting to think the best thing to do is leave his *** alone to F up. Leave him be with his posse. Let em continue to suck. Let the ticket sales drop to 18,000 next year.

By game 5 next year, can his ***. That's where I am right now. In 45 minutes, I'll be somewhere else.

.........as a satisfactory answer to solving our problems? Are you freaking kidding me?!!

Anything less than an OC change at the minimum is totally unacceptable, and it will in my opinion prove that Greg Byrne is Croom's ***** just as much as LT was.

It doesn't matter who we hire at OC, the offense will still suck as long as Croom is in the picture. His quote from Saturday about getting out of the way (which he won't continue to do) says it all about who is the real reason our offense sucks so bad.

Coach you keep posting that the money is there, but from the people I talk to the entire buyout including asstitants is close to 5 million. With the economy the way it is I have heard Byrne will not ask for that kind of money. Now we could defer that out over a period of two years if all parties agree to that, but that will will put a strangle hold on our budget when we try to hire another coach. I hope you are correct and that people I talk to are full of it, because I would love for us to move in another direction.

Agreed. If some heads haven't rolled within 24 hours of the conclusion of the Egg Bowl, then we need to be looking to hire an AD with a sack in his shorts to go along with that head football coach position.

will put a stranglehold on our football program. Well, it's in one now, but you know what I mean.
