He's also the best at being an ******* it appears (and thats bad when I notice it). That was just terrible. Calling people out during your HOF speech is really petty and strange.

MJ was one of the best trashtalkers in the NBA, so it's not that shocking. No way that MJ was as big an ******* as Larry Bird though. And I love Larry Bird- when he was an ******* it was awesome. For example- the Celtics were playing someone on Christmas Day, and in the shoot around, Bird was telling the other team- "I've got a Christmas present for ya'll." The game gets into the 4th period, and the Celtics are down by two with the clock running down. Bird gets the ball in front of the other bench outside the three point arc. Bird then shoots and right before the ball goes in and the clock expires, he tells the bench "Merry <17>in' Christmas" and the Celtics win.

I'm not the only one talking about how bad it was. Calling out Byron Russell, giving Magic and Thomas hell about the all-star game in 1985...was just a mess of a speech.

He said even when Jordan got a free meal, he didn't tip the servers anything. Just because you were great at basketball and getting to travel with the ball on every crossover doesn't make you a good person.

I thought it was in poor taste considering John Stockton and Jerry Sloan were there. But at the same time, I think MJ meant for it to sound like Byron Russell inspired him to come back and get him to leave baseball and get back into basketball. It just came out wrong.

Xavier McDaniel.........They two had been going at it all night.......Boston was down by two with like 3 seconds to go and calls a timeout......Bird came out of the huddle and walks over to X and says "I'm going to shoot the ball right there (pointing to spot on the floor behind the 3 point line)......Sure enough, the huddle breaks and Bird gets the ball in the spot he pointed too and nailed the 3 pointer.........X said all he could say was DAMN, JUST DAMN.......Bird knew he was upset and walks over to him and says "17, I left too much time on the clock"........Larry "LEGEND"......

between trash-talking on the court during a game, and trash-talking during a HOF induction speech. Jordan is a piece of **** as a person. Bird is not.

That was just MJ joking about some of the things that happened in his career. It wasn't mean-spirited or ill-intentioned at all. MJ was the ultimate competitor and that was just his competitive nature coming through. He was just sharing stories about the situations and people who inspired him during his career. You regular wankers wouldn't understand that. I'm not surprised that your responses are to criticize, vilify and try to label the man. That's so typical of your mindsets.

does his dick taste? We aren't the only ones blasting him today. Numerous articles out there. And I saw the clips of it - it definitely was mean-spirited.

Wankers? really?

I'm as big of a Bird fan as any, but you may not want to vouch for him in his personal life. He's got some skeletons in his closet too, especially in regard to his first daughter.

I saw the Jordan speech, and it was very unusual. It looked like Stockton was pissed at one point when he was talking **** about Bryon Russell. And his "I don't know who invited you here, but I didn't" to Jerry Krause was uncalled for no matter what the history is. He didn't say it in a joking manner. You could have heard a pin drop when he started going off on Krause.

Because we didn't play in the NBA? It was a crappy speech. All he had to do was thank everyone and then go get his *** kissed. Instead he called a bunch of people out for no good reason. It's not a roast.

I don't think he intended to come across like he did, but geez, I would have hoped that he at least read his speech to someone beforehand who would have at least said "Hey, uh Mike, you might not want to say that." The scary thing to me is he probably did.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. You must be one of those Jordan sheep that thinks he's Black Jesus.

To talk about things you have no knowledge of.

None of you were inside his heart and mind last night. Therefore, none of you know his intention. And none of you know him well enough to define his character. To even attempt to do that from seeing a speech on television is ludicrous.

It's not about that. It's about his persona off the court in dealing with people. Bird is gracious and complimentary when talking about his HOF career and his competitors. Jordan is not, never has been, and took it to a new low the other night.

he might talk trash, but he's a pretty humble guy considering. He also grew up in a tough situation. His Dad blew his brains out in their front yard if I remember correctly. He walked home from the U. of Indiana his freshman year...literally, walked all the way home and was a garbage man for a year before he went to Indiana St.

Who was that ***** that gave like a 35 minute speech?

We went to Pigskin last night for dinner and she was just walking up to the podium. We ordered, sat down, waited for our food, and were almost done eating by the time she got done. And to make it worse, she was speaking in this awful monotone the entire time.

Who was that?

I got a kick out of a lot of what he said. He is a competitive person and you saw that last night in his speech. And I dont give a **** what he is like as a person, I just enjoyed watching him on the court. he is far and away the best to ever play the game. I dont care how big of an ******* any of these athletes are off the court

Vintage Jordan. I didn't think he was out of line at all. That's just who he is. As for criticism of the speech from the media, there's just as much praise for him sticking to his persona. If all you did was "watch clips" you probably saw things out of context. He was crying when he got up there, regained his composure, and gave credit to plenty of people with funny anecdotes that traced his entire life. His message was that he was most thankful for those who had tried (knowingly and unknowingly) to slow him down or challenge him. To me, that's as true as a competitor can get. His interview with Mike Wilbon that aired before the ceremony was fantastic as well.

It's hard to be humble when you're that good and mean that much to the game, or the 1990's in general, but Jordan still has. He might be unconventional, but that doesn't make him an *******. He might not tip (and coming from Barkley doesn't say a lot) but he's donated ungodly amounts of money throughout his life. The man also did Space Jam, which is one of the greatest sports movies for kids, ever. But maybe that was only special to people my age. He's always been an ambassador for the game, gotten along well with fans, and shown appreciation for the guys who played with him on the court.

You can hate on Michael Jordan all you want, but in terms of NBA personnel, fans of basketball in general, or the entire f*ckin world for that matter, you are in the minority. And there's no debating that.

By the way Costanza, if any of these sentiments warrant another one of your "how does his dick taste" responses, you must first realize that a train of thought like that would suggest, in some form or another, this entire message board is a bunch of cock suckers. And if that's still the case, I would ask Coach how Mullen's dick tasted, you how Stansbury's dick tasted, and CB9 how that antique car's muffler tasted. We are all blindly supportive of our own choosings.

I watched it live and again online to see if I was missing something. The mood was sort of like a humorous roast. The other has been players got upset that he jabbed them. Weak egos. Jordan was just letting you know that he was the best. If he pissed them off, then good, they are a bunch of grumpy old has beens.

To be honest, Jordan deserved to be in hall of fame by his own. He is better than any modern day player of his era, won more championships, and made more game winning shots in the finals.

And he did thank Scottie Pippen and Dean Smith and a few others. Hell yes he rubbed it in a little in fun and pissed some of the old farts off. Good for him, it was funny.

David Robinson hit his speech out of the ballpark. He is just a humble, christian man that can make you look like an idiot on the court.
