The posts about cops getting shot at the gas station made me wonder for a moment.

Have any of you been in a situation that was "scary" before?

I was a Cigarros (they had the hottest bartenders) years ago and someone said something..next thing I know this guy smashes a glass over the back of some guys head. Blood all over, they start fighting. Only lasted for like a minute but it was wild. They both took off and the cops were called.

That is really it for me.

When I was a sophomore High School a car pulled up next to us at the stoplight on 90th and Center and spit on my buddies car. My buddy rolled the window down to say something and a guy in the back seat of the other pulled a gun out and started waving it around at us. We sped off and nothing happened but still scared the **** out of me

....getting blasted by a car while on a bike ride that was doin fiddy plus and me flying across the street watching the sky rotate several times only to find myself face down splattered all over the pavement with burning sensations all over (broken bones) and liquid running thru my fingers I thought was blood from my head...I was soooo fukcing scared to look, when I finally did it was water...from my camelbak that exploded....honestly thought to myself "your heads cracked open and you're going to be dead in a minute..." yeah i was scared. But i'm saved, so it would have been a promotion if i had been right :)

Not sure that counts, but it does to me.

In high school there was a road party and some older guys started giving two younger guys a bunch of crap they left only to come back with rifles they were going to shoot everyone we figured it was more than alcohol that made these guys brave, good thing it was in the fall a buddy and myself ran in a Milo field and hit the ground roughly 150 yards away. Thank goodness these two had some common sense and left without any problems. This was in the 1970’s if it was todays climate a lot of people would have been dead

I was working a summer job at the Falstaff brewery and I was unloading empty bottle cases from a box car onto a conveyor belt. Hotter than hell. Most of the guys were South O bohunks, Poles, Czechs and so forth who started working there after being discharged from the service after the Korean war. One of them took pity on the summer kid and gave me a can of military beer and sammie made of sausage, sour kraut, dill pickles and loads of mayo. Wolfed the sammie down like it was manna and sucked that twice-Pasturized military beer like it was the sweetest water in the world. Spend the rest of my shift alternating loading cases and blowing chunks of super-heated mayo on the rails. Didn't die but sure as hell wished I had.

I had to get the cops to help me evict a guy from a rental. He calmly sat down on the bed and slashed his own throat wide open. Without thinking (stupidly) I shoved a pillow to put pressure on the wound while the cop got the blade from him and radioed for help. I had to take an HIV test every three months for the next year (negative, thank God) since I got his blood on me, there was blood everywhere. The guy lived. I got a commendation from the police for assisting an officer in distress.

Barfight in Deadwood bar years ago, got in the middle of it defending a drunk friend. That wasn’t the bad part, being followed back to the hotel by some scumbags looking to continue the trouble was not fun. I always carry a gun in my vehicles now, not to be a hero but just to know I’ve got that going for me if **** gets hairy fast. Got my wife a handgun too for when she travels alone or with kids.

Straight out of its second trip thru the Pasturizer. Military beer was plain label Falstaff that they ran through the Pasturizer twice to increase its shelf life.

Scariest situation for me happened when I was in my 20s in Guatemala. I took a guy's offer to be my taxi driver to Tikal from the Belize border. He said he'd wait for me while I was there for a couple hours which I thought was great. After I finished there and we were on the drive back, the agreed upon amount for the taxi service suddenly changed to a lot more than the original amount.
I said I needed to go to a bank and he drove me to one to get more money because I knew it would be bad if I didn't give him what he asked for. At the bank I got the money and said I'd pay him once we got to the Belize border which he did. Once there I handed him the money and got the F back into Belize.
Never, ever, take unofficial taxi offers in 3rd world countries.

Rolled a car on a gravel road late at night by myself. Walked away unscathed.

Recently got clipped by a car on the interstate going 75. Swerved back and forth across two lanes, spun around and shot down into the ditch. Again, walked away unscathed. I’m a lucky sumbitch.

Back in the 80s I attended a couple parties where someone got pissed off and started waving a gun around threatening to kill someone.

In the 90s I went out with a woman a few times. Her Turkish former boyfriend started stalking us. He told me I needed to stay away from her. Smartly, I decided to get out. She got back together with him. A couple years later they broke up again and he kills her.

Earlier this evening, driving on hwy 30 near GI. Driving 65mph, about to meet a semi and the semi is suddenly getting passed by a car. I didn't have time to hit the brakes just went right onto the shoulder. We all 3 were side by side. Thank goodness the semi moved to the right or it would have been a head on for me. At least I think the truck moved, it happened so fast I am not certain but we all fit without touching.. Darn glad I wasn't glancing at my cell.

I ‘ve had a few close calls, but this is the one I am amazed I came out of it completely unscathed. This was back in the early nineties I was in Denver staying with a married couple. We all went to high school together back in Nebraska. The husband and I went skiing up in Vail for the day. After skiing we have a couple of beers at the Red Lion before we headed back. Nothing crazy. We stop at a liquor store at Dillion/ Silverthorne exit to get a supply of booze for the weekend. We got several bottles. We throw the booze in the back of his old Bronco with our skis.

The Bronco was one of those really big old Broncos. It was his dad’s hunting truck. It was a 2-door, and it had vinyl seats and flooring with a 4-speed transmission. The dad would fill up a Ball glass jar with CC and coke then take off for the countryside. He would never get out of the truck. If he saw a rooster, he would just shoot it out of one of the side windows. He would then lean forward, open his door and let out his two lab, Ben and Moose, who were sitting in the backseat. The labs would retrieve the pheasant and bring it back to the dad in the truck.

When we left the liquor store, I am guessing it was about 30-35 degrees and brilliantly sunny. When we come out of the eastside of the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 we are immediately surprised with a snowstorm. At least 3-4 inches have already accumulated on the road. For you kids out there, in the old days you used to have to lock-in the front hubs before you could put a vehicle into 4-wheel drive. Since it had been nice and sunny up to that point my friend did not have the hubs locked in. My friend normally is a great driver, but not that day. The Bronco spins around and we now find ourselves sliding down a steep section of I-70 backwards. You should have seen the look on the people's faces that were in the cars behind us. We are looking directly at them through the Bronco's windshield. I don't know how far we slid, but enough to scare the hell out of us. It was like 3-3:30 pm with lots of cars heading back to Denver. You had to be there. It was scary. He finally gets the Bronco to spin around on the right shoulder of the road where it was stopped by the guardrail. The Bronco comes to rest at 45-degree angle facing downhill and impact causes the engine to die. My friend yells at me to get out of the Bronco to check-out what is going on with the truck. Like I am going to help. When I jumped out of the truck I slip and fall down. I am on the downhill side of the truck between it and the guardrail. All I can think is some other vehicle will come down the hill, hit the Bronco, which will kill me by pinning me against the guardrail. Before I can even get to my feet, he has the Bronco running and now he is yelling at me to get back in. As if I wasn't already trying to do so as fast as I can. We drive off, stop someplace safe and lock the hubs in. Get to his house with no other problems. Why did I bring up buying booze? From all the spinning and hitting the guardrail, a couple of bottles break making the old Bronco smell like a dirty old bar. The smell was pretty overwhelming. Lucky no cops saw the accident. That old Bronco was built like a tank. It came out of the mess with a small indentation on the back bumper and the passenger side door creaked a little bit when it was opened or closed. The truck ran for years until his two boys started driving it while they were in high school. Sadly, the kids pretty much destroyed it.

In the early 2000s, I witnessed a hood rat carjack this old lady from the old Toys “R” Us on 78th and Dodge. It was surreal. I was about 20 feet away and ran over and tried to pull him out of the car through the driver side window. I was unsuccessful and he got away. Detectives came and interviewed me at work the next day. Sunday/Monday. They found the guy. I testified and he went to jail.

Did they question you as to why you were hanging out in the parking lot of a Toys R Us? Hahaha

My 2 brothers and I moved from Kansas to Arizona when we were younger. Tried to start up a new business but kept getting harassed by a local street gang. Eventually, we all became local law enforcement officers and tried to clean up the town. Not long after, we got into a shootout with some of the street gang members near a horse stable. My brothers and I survived but we ended up un-aliving a few members of the gang. They retaliated and un-alived my younger brother and seriously wounded my older brother. That prompted me to join a federal law enforcement agency where I could hire others to help me crack down on the entire gang. We produced a lot of fatalities on the street gang, and a couple of my buddies perished. Unbeknownst to me, my top hired man had a duel with the gang leader and slayed him. We broke up the gang after that. Unfortunately, my best associate died from a rare disease. I ultimately married my best friend. So far, I have lived my best life in his memory.

I had a couple of near death experiences, when I was in the military many moons ago, I participated in some counter drug recon missions in the Gulf of America and south. I was flying a sortie with an AWACS crew, as many of you know, they have their own radar, coupled with the sensitivity of the mission, needless to say we weren't checking in with any ground towers or on a specific flight plan. Anyway, about 4 hours in to the mission, one of the crew members who was charged with monitoring other aircraft and their proximity to our plane, hesitantly tells the pilot, that there was a commercial aircraft getting close, so as the pilot begins to adjust our heading and altitude, the plane shakes like freaking crazy and you hear the sound that you hear when you pass an oncoming vehicle on a two lane road, but only a thousand times louder. I nearly **** my pants. The pilot lit this crew member's *** up for the next hour.

The second one was when I was working down in the lovely town of Sullivan City, Texas on the border between McAllen and Rio Grande City on highway 83. I walked into a convenience store to get a cup of coffee and a breakfast taco, when all of a sudden a boat load of federal agents, (border patrol, the 2010 version of customs and immigration and FBI) came storming the convenience store and told us all to get down on the ground. The owner of the convenience store had a home directly behind the store where apparently he had set up a nice little drug distribution center. When the LEOs busted in, the dude bolted out the back toward his house. Next thing I hear is a shoot out in the house, no one was killed but they ended up arresting the owner and seizing a significant amount of drugs. I did get a free cup of coffee and breakfast taco for my trouble.

Before I started teaching I was actually what we used to call a cooler, but really I was just the highest bouncer on the totem pole.

Anyways, I went to help a buddy of mine who was in the same role in Jasper, Missouri. He was having all kinds of issues with some rowdy townies and one local businessman(guy looked just like Jackie Treehorn from The Big Lebowski) in particular. I thought we were really starting to clean things up until that same businessman hired a badass out of prison...his name was like Jimmy or something. The guy almost crippled me with a pool cue in part of a huge barfight, but me and my buddy eventually kinda fought our way out of things.

My buddy said the highlight of his time there was pounding a smoking hot blonde in some barn while listening to These Arms of Mine by Otis Redding.

So, I did not want to share everything BUT, I was at a summer camp, the camp counselors were not very good at watching us kids, they were more into smoking weed, drinking beers and having sex.

Long story short, I ended up drowning in the lake, Crystal Lake. I have dealt with some major anger issues ever since, I have made a few mistakes with how I deal with people and for that I apologize.

You definitely had @SuperBigFan69 going with this story until the last 2 sentences.

Lived your best life while also being married? Totally fake.

As a skier, I frequently frequently drive on I-70 in the mountains in CO in the winter. Every trip you come out unscathed feels amazing. Good tires and judgement, (not 4WD) are your best friends going downhill - there are lessons learned daily on that on I70..
