First, I think he's a great dude. Nice from all accounts, and seems to be working our players hard. But holy **** do you read his twitter? Not sure if I've ever seen a d1 coach go on about the things he does. In the past week, he's tried to intrigue us by slowly announcing his top 10 favorite movies of all time....what? He also let us know how big of a fan of comic books and comic book TV shows he is.... alright....<div>

..he needs to 86 the Twitter stuff.

For any college athletic dept., Twitter is nothing but a ticking time bomb.


Somebody needs to fill Ray in on this.

I don't give a **** about his top 10 favorite movies, but as long as he's coaching our guys up (which he seems to be) and not embarrassing the university (which he's not) I'm good with it.

His words don't make you think SEC basketball coach. If we go out there and look like a 17ing train wreck this season, I would hope that he spends a little less time watching 17ing Ninja Turtles and more time being a grown up D1 Basketball Coach. (and by train wreck, I'm not referring to our record bc I know it will suck, I'm referring to the hustle and effort.) If we begin to progress as a team and are competitive, etc, then by all means let the man run a Starkville comic book store for all I care. It just sets you up to look bad when you're the coach of a team that is going to suck hard, and you're spending hours of the day tweeting about Spiderman. Hopefully he will do well though.

and Thomas the Train,and his other favorite Kids Classics, etc. but that doesn't mean Ray can't flip a switch. Hell, I hope he goes Batman on some teams this year.

Ray's actually getting some fans out there to interact with him on twitter through his top 10 list. Oh the 17ing horror!!!

It's kind of awesome actually. I may start following him now.</p>

I really don't know WTF is wrong with some of you people, but no matter what the man does there's a sizable contingent that is going to ***** about it. Actually, I do have an idea of where most of this is coming from and you people need to get the hell over it. Stricklin did what had to be done to save the program.

Who tweets interesting things such as "i'm at Bed Bath and Beyond with my wife"- Had to quit following after that one. You are the AD and head BB coach in the SEC act like it.

17! If he makes our program decent again, I don't care if he list his top 10 movies or top 10 magazines to read while taking a dump on Twitter.

If Strick would act like a real AD, maybe then we could be setting donation records, building new complexes, renovating the football stadium, getting national publicity for our media campaigns, showing vast improvement in most every sport on campus, contributing to record enrollment, and so on.

If only he acted like a real AD.

We gave a career assistant with only 3 years experience in a major conference a chance as our football coach and it seems to be turning out pretty good.

I actually was at a football team dinner and out of nowhere comes this clown and by clown I mean full makeup, red nose, colored curly wig and clown suit and sure as **** it's Jackie Sherrill. Not one other person in the room was surprised by this but me. He dressed up as a clown very frequently. Some weird *** ****. Hilarious!

Fans wanted a guy who is well-spoken and intelligent, and they got him.

They wanted a guy who runs a disciplined program and does things the "right" way, and they seem to have gotten him.

They wanted a guy who doesn't make excuses, and they seem to have gotten him.

Young coach? Check.

Media-savvy coach? Check.

Also, Stans was correctly vilified for our players being out-of-shape, and I haven't seen a single person comment on Ray's recent press conference, during which time he said Sword is running every morning as a result of the BB gun incident, Ware has lost almost 20lbs since arriving on campus and Borchet (sp) has gained 15lbs since he has arrived. That has been conveniently ignored.

Why on Earth are people mad at Ray for having the audacity to actually be himself on Twitter? It is 2012. Twitter accounts are practically a must for anyone working a job that makes them to be visible to the public. Ray tweets about all kinds of things, many of them basketall-related. If he wants to use his personal Twitter account to tweet about things he enjoys, then more power to him. Don't try to put the guy in a 17ing box.

I almost feel bad for Ray. He is getting paid more than 99% of us will ever make, but he is risking his career on a job that people are still livid he got. People want to say he lacks confidence, but he was the only person with the balls to take over the dumpster fire Stans left smoldering.

Ray seems like a cool dude. It's too bad some of our fans refuse to even admit that much.

I don't know if you are too young to experience the Templeton days but the man is trying to build credence with the fanbase. Not the 1% fanbase but the group that actually stands during exciting minutes of MSU basketball. The old guard is out and there are a lot of successful 20-30 something's that want to be part of the university, but in the past were pushed aside because of old money. 17 the old money if you support great, if not then let younger guys donate a little more and make the hump electric again.

and I enjoy his youthful enthusiasm on Twitter. But I alsoget the impression that he will not be outworked.
Hard to really gauge at this point but he also seems like a true student of thegame with an understanding of what works in today's college ball.
These characteristics will makehim a quality head coach.

the people that actuallystood during the exciting minutes the last few years of the classic Hump are the ones that are OUT now. It was the LOCAL FOLKS and the studentsthat made the Humpa snake pit. The new richpeople are the ones that killed it. Spin it any way you want but I was there and saw it all over the last 30 years. It's headed back to the early '80s now. Our new administration have got it right for football, but they killed the Hump.

another year of the train wreck. I was a huge Stans fan and I still think he is the best coach we've had since McCarthy when you look at coach's entire career. But it was time for him (and MSU) to move on. He should have taken then Clemson job when he had the chance, and he knew that at the time but just couldn't pull the trigger. I just hope he, and the people loyal to him, don't hold the program down because they're bitter but it seems that's what is happening.

I love his recent string of tweets. He's a 17ing human being, and he's not afraid to show it. If you've been following him since the hire, you know how hard he's worked this offseason to establish and/or advance recruiting relationships all over the country. He takes a week off to move his family from Clemson to Starkville and, along the way, spares a few tweets to help fans understand who he is... outside of being a hard-working basketball coach. Big 17ing deal.<div>
</div><div>I have no idea if he's going to be a good fit at State or not, but I'm hoping like hell that he is. Quite frankly, after glancing at our schedule, we'll be lucky to win a dozen games this season.</div>
