Anyone else feel strangely better after listening to Cohen's post game?

Normally I spaz out over a loss to a team like Memphis but just hearing the coach address our issues and sound pissed off this early in the season makes me feel so much better than when a coach gives the standard coachspeak like "playing hard and good things will come", "got to keep grinding", etc.

It bugs the hell out of me as a fan when the coach does not appear equally as pissed off as me over a loss.

Nope.

That's what he should say as head coach. Went through some of the same things last year. When they put it together, I'll be feel better.

Hell of a lot better than "That's Baseball."

That little Smurf **** drove me nuts after a terrible loss.

A little bit, he called out each defensive mistake individually which included over half the team. Not all counted as errors, but every single Memphis run was the result of miscues. Losses are easier to take when they are the result of running into a Randy Johnson clone like the first game.

As a fan, only disappointed because I'm really hoping they take the next step and earn a national seed this year. The team certainly still has the ability to do so. But to have a realistic shot, we really need to be 17-3, 16-4 at worst heading into SEC play. That would allow us to drop 7-10 conference games and still be in OK shape. I think we turn it around and start a winning streak this weekend, but in regards to hosting a super, the margin for error is pretty slim.

I'm sorry I'm not drinking the koolaid. Calling out players individually publicly is bush league. Cohen did that sh#t his first two years and all the players turned against him. Thought he learned his lesson.

He called out Bradford. That guy deserves every call out he gets.

He gets more free passes at not producing at the plate than any player I have ever seen in the maroon and white based on his "excellent defense." Over the past 3 years, all I have seen is Bradford consistently misplay balls and drop cans of corn. He makes some spectacular plays at the same time but often they are spectacular because he is not positioned correctly in centerfield.

But, let's put Bradford's pitiful hitting in perspective. In Bradford's last 275 at bats, he has 5 extra base hits!!! 5!!! To put that in perspective, Sam Frost had 4 extra base hits last year in 96 ABs. Pirtle had 13 extra base hits in 229 at bats. Daryl Norris had 3 in 64 at bats. Hell, even Robson had 2 in 97 at bats. Slauter had 8 in 99 at bats.

In Bradford's career, he has only had 24 Extra base hits!!! 24! That's in 643 at bats. Frazier had 27 extra base hits LAST year. Renfroe had 35 LAST YEAR. Detz had 16 LAST YEAR. Pirtle had 13 LAST YEAR. Rea had 19 LAST YEAR.

I understand Bradford is not a power guy like Rea or Renfroe but it's really pitiful. He hasn't improved AT ALL since his freshman year.

Freshman- Batted .303. In 244 at bats had 14 extra base hits. Only 23 Ks. Best year, not even close.

Sophmore (injured)- Batted .258. In 124 at bats, had 5 extra base hits. Only 17 Ks.

Junior-His season of suck. Batted .281. In 260 ABs, 5 extra base hits. He had the second most ABs of ANYONE on the team, behind Frazier.

Senior-So far a season of suck. Batting .267. In 15 ABs, no extra base hits.

When Bradford is at the plate, it is a sac bunt, try to bunt for a hit, try for a seeing eye single through the right side, or pop up behind the 2nd or 1st baseman.

Yes, I'm ready for another centerfielder.

Would have preferred him saying "like monkeys 17'ing footballs" like my HS coach would say.

Yes. He pointed out that pitching and defense are what we are all about and the defense let us down. I also loved the softball swing comment. He pretty much laid out the things that have made use successful (pitching, defense, putting the ball in play not swinging for the fence) and gave examples of how we did not do that. That makes me feel better because that means our team philosophy hasn't changed as far as the head coach is concerned.

Anyway, I am not going to get concerned in February unless our pitching just looked god awful right off the start.

Then put him in the leadoff role...OH WAIT, you can't do that.

Last year, he was 7TH on our team in on base percentage. 2012 he was 8TH on the team in on base percentage. 2011 he was 4th...his best year. If he was playing at 2011 levels, put him in the leadoff spot. But, he never will be again.

In this shortened year, he is 7TH on the team in on base percentage.

He needs to be in the 7 or 8 hole or not at all. He hurts us offensively.

There is absolutely no value to a "singles only" hitter who has a low, compared to the rest of the lineup, on base percentage. The positive is that he rarely hits the ball hard enough to ground into a double play. He has decent speed. Not good speed.

i feel a bit better. he is essentially verbalizing some of the concerns we have expressed. in order to eliminate some of the problems, you must first correctly identify them. step 2 is correcting them. in that regard, cohen pretty much nailed the problems we are having. additionally, as pissed as i get at a loss, i know he takes it the worst and that is evident in his comments. i am also encouraged in the fact that he said we did things that we dont normally do, so, its safe to assume this game was an aberration and not the norm we should come to expect. only time will tell, but my confidence in cohen was really bolstered by this past season.

Or or a tranquilizer! What a rant about an excellent player
