Floating rumor that Bower comes in as OC for 09. First reaction was 'complete and utter ********!'

Then hubdog chimes in that rumor has legs.

Anybody here got anything on this?

I'd say it would probably be a bad move if true. I think we should go after Gus Mahlzahn. I really think he could have the same effect that Joe Lee Dunn had on the Sherrill era circa 96-2000. I certainly hope it ends better if we get Mahlzahn.

Bower, however, could be a decent "caretaker" if Byrne believes he's going to have to Bowden Croom's fat *** mid-season next year. Malzahn would not fill that role.

Expectations were high (not equal to 2001 but relatively speaking, they were high)
We end up not doing well.
Hire old head coaches to try and fix it.

about Bower is that Croom would probably trust Bower to take the offense over so Croom would be willing to keep his incompetent *** completely out of it. Hell, this is ALL I've wanted for three years. Put Croom on the white bread alumni speaking circuit. Let him recruit the Mamas over biscuits and gravy. Let him parade around as black bear making ESPN videos. Just keep his *** away from scholarship athletes, and take his damn gameday headset away from him. Give him a pair of headsets piped in with Cat Stevens ****.

Bowers' 13 years as a HC dealing with leftover Mississippi high school 2 star athletes showed he knows how to make shinola out of ****. What would you give to have a Croom offensive player recruiting class, top to bottom, that rose to the level of the mediocrity of a Bower class? Helluva improvement if you ask me. Let Bower have complete control over CUSA quality athletes, and guess what you'll get? A helluva improvement, and with the right scheduling, you'll beat the teams you're supposed to and go bowling more often than not.

That's my theory on this unsubstantiated rumor.

I agree with Shmuley. I think Bower's track record speaks for itself and look how the buzzards are doing this year without him. If Croom was Bowdened I would feel confident in Bower to take control of the situation. Somebody will pick Bower up in 09. I am still suprised he is out there now.

the southern fans will just yap and yap about how "we got their leftovers". I dont think I could take it. Those people let Bower go and they will regret it for years to come. If w are going to get leftovers lets get them from a school that matters.

for the most part he beating other C-USA talent with his C-USA talent. C-USA talent vs. SEC talent doesn't have as good a track record.

Although I do agree that Bower can run an offense much better than Croom ever could.

We are talking about winning. Personally I don't care what other people "yap" about as long as we are winning. One man gathers what another man spills</p>

I think the main reason nobody picked him up for 2008 was because he was kind of burned out after 2007 and decided to take a year off, paid for with USM's buyout money. He'll find a job, but it'll be nothing better than the one he had. The two rumors about him this week (Memphis head coach or MSU offensive coordinator) are about as good as he'll be able to do.

last weekend.

I agree with Shmuley. He wouldn't be a bad hire. Not to mention the help he would provide in recruiting in south Ms.

Also heard that Memphis and one named " The Kang" are talking. Wouldn't that be interesting??

Notice I said nothing about Bower taking CUSA level talent and beating SEC comp. I said taking CUSA level talent (which is the best Croom can pull, top to bottom) and "winning the games we're supposed to win." THIS would be a helluva improvement over what we're doing. Hell, we just need to stop losing to the likes of Louisiana Tech. Getting Croom the hell away from the offense and turning it over to someone competent will do wonders.

What is going on at Memphis? Tommy West officially leaving....or just speculation from fans ? If Memphis fires him, that would be dumb.

Why would Gus Malzahn want to come to MSU as offensive coordinator? He's actually on a career path where he is trying to move UP.

And please don't come back with the same old "but it's the SEC arguement".

Do you have any idea how many orders of magnitude better than Woody McCorvey he would be? I would hire him as OC in a heartbeat. PLUS, nobody's mentioned that then we would be a front runner for a certain famous quarterback's son. I wonder how a #4 would look in maroon?

that if we don't improve next season with a new offensive staff, they all get to send out resumes. It lets him coach again, at SEC level this time and if the ship sinks. If he does well but Croom still loses it possibly ups his stock to take a HC job somewhere else. I just don't know how many good OC's out there would come to MSU knowing that it is very possibly a one and done deal.

combining the conservative sit on the ball in the second half attitude of bower with the complete suckitude of croom's offensive genious could cause a rip in the space/time continuum that we may never recover from. we all may leap around in some sort of time warp like Dr. Sam Beckett and our only hope would be Al's horny old *** trying to help us while Ziggy gets the season's predictions as wrong as Coach34. Don't do it Greg. It ain't worth it.

he hates Nutt's ***. I'm sure he would like a chance at revenge, and what better place to do it at than his school's chief rival?

why would he want to be an OC when he could become a HC a least with another C-USA conference team? I don't see this playing out plus I would be willing to bet that Croom hasn't even thought about or I should I say talked to any potential OC for next year. I also don't see why Bower would want to be an assistant for CroomBall. WHEN CroomBall is asked to leave I believe all of the assistant will go as well. If the Bower rumor has any legs, Bower would be taking a big chance of being promoted to HC after being an assistant to CroomBall, mainly because our offense would suck *** again! Lastly, if Bower is considering an assistant at Msu it has to be to get as many years in his retirement with the state don't you think (and I don't think it's that because from what I understand his wife has made a boat full of money and still does)?

....my mind. Neither of them represent what I believe we need, and that's a complete philosophical change on offense. Either hire would be the typical ******** MSU hire and be a prime indicator that it's just a matter of time that we'll be completely cleaning house again.

Let's make it simple....Fire Croom and bring in the Graham/Mahlzahn connection. It's three birds with one stone!! 1)No more Croom 2) up and coming head coach that has won at Rice and Tulsa, has the passion 3) Proven Offensive mind that would love nothing more than to prove his talents in the SEC and exact revenge against Nutt, which happens to be the Ole Piss coach. Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner! Byrne call on all Dog Fans and lets move on with the buyout!
