Anyone else happy for Indiana?

The OSU OL Saturday night was beyond awful both on run blocking and pass protection especially on the right side where the RG was a swinging turn style until he was yanked.
Either the Indiana DL is that good or the OSU OL was believing the social media posts after the Michigan or most likely a combination of both.
If I am either T A and M or Miami I am not counting on that happening again.
IU - 340 yards, 6.0 ypp
OSU - 322 yards, 5.8 ypp
OSU off the UM win with playoffs on deck. I don't think they had the same motivation as IU. Would still make OSU a favorite, but IU is legit.

Well, I'm not sure anyone would "sleep" on the #2/3 team in the country. I personally have IU as a 1 to 1.5 point favorite on a neutral, but I wouldn't be surprised if books opened this more like pick'em or UGA -1, expecting to take money on UGA.
If I was filling out a bracket I'd put UGA vs Oregon in the final with UGA winning it.
We have a good friend who is an IU grad who suffered through PSU thrashings for decades. I feel good for him, he is euphoric. We do not enjoy the antics and personality of the new HC. He turns us off but there is no argument about the results he achieved in a remarkably short time at a school known for basketball. We salute his success, with reservations about his demeanor.

UGA/Ohio State is tough for me but I'd be shocked if anyone else came from that half. Beating both of them is going to be really tough.

You better hope that for Penn state's sake. That is not going to happen, though. Cignetti is a great coach and a great coach elevates a team to win big games and be contending for the national championship every year. Look at Saban, Meyer now Smart as examples. Yes, Cignetti is at their level. You/we would not know this because we we were forced to endure the underperforming product that Franklin traipsed out for years.
Cignetti has absolutely not proven he's at that level. If he wins a couple playoff games then we can consider adding him to that group. He hasn't accomplished 1/100th of what those guys did.

Ohio State got in FG range and missed a 27 yard FG. Indiana played well and earned the win but he's 0-1 in the playoff so far. He can't be compared to Smart, Meyer or Saban without a title.
Now if you want to state he's better than Franklin you may be able to defend that but not Smart--come on.
"You'll see" means your "projecting" what he'll become not what he is now. Time will tell but right now he's not in the conversation with those guys.

He has not had the opportunity yet but he will get there. He is an elite coach but since he has not won any yet he is not at the Smart level in terms of winning titles using that as your measure. However, I think he is as good a coach as those guys but I get it, difficult to say since he has not won the titles they have....yet.

It would be great if he won something important. When he does then argue he's on their level. No one in the game today is on the level of Smart.
Okay he had one opportunity. Did Smart make the playoff his first season? No, he was 8-5. It doesn't matter when he became a head coach. So winning something important is the NC? Don't worry that is coming.
And when/if he accomplishes those things you can make the claim he's on their level. Right now, he's not.
Well, what Cignetti has done is kind of unprecedented, so he does have something to support it. Saban or Smart never did it.
This would be the equivalent of saying Patty Fitz is on that level for what he did at Northwestern. He has to maintain success and win titles to be on that level. You can't be mentioned with Saban and Smart without a title
Taking Indiana to the playoffs two years in a row is more difficult to do than winning a title at Georgia or Alabama….it just is. I’m not saying Cignetti is the GOAT at this point or should be discussed in the same discussion with some of the game’s best, but he’s done something Saban or Smart hasn’t, and I doubt, could do. That’s why guys like Saban, Smart, and Meyer go to schools that are already in a position to win a NC.

He has a solid draw this year and is the 1 seed--he can start proving he's worthy of this kind of praise.
13-0 and losing in the playoff isn't a great year--ask Oregon
There are coaching feats that are better than winning a NC. If you are handed all the talent in the world then you have to look at what the coach did versus simply "out talenting" everyone. I am not saying Smart, Saban and Meyer are not great coaches but they are blessed with the cream of the crop talent to help them. I look at Larry Coker winning it all in 2001. Was he some incredible coach and the best coach that year? Or was he blessed with having NFL players at almost every position?
Cignetti did not have that talent and that is what makes his win over OSU so impressive.
What Cignetti has done has never been done before. Indiana was literally the worst team in the Power 4 conferences with the most losses. He changed a culture of losing. That is not something everyone can do. I agree he needs to sustain this run of success but he has done something no other coach has ever done.
Smart, Saban and Meyer went out and got the talent. They weren't handed it. Smart had to change the culture...Bama chased coaches for years. They built those programs without the luxury of a portal. Saban...maybe that's fair but even what he did prior to Florida showed he could build a program.
Coker is a great example but not comparable to Smart or Saban IMO. I think Coker might be comparable to Day.
Giving Cignetti a ton of praise is not only understandable...its deserved and has been earned. Comparing him to Smart though is absurd. In 3-5 years maybe that's a discussion.
