Anyone else happy for Indiana?

This may be the most off base post I have ever done on this board and if it is I will own up to it but I actually think that OSU losing on Saturday increases their chances of a natty or at least getting to the NC game. The similarities to last years loss to scUM down to the final score and how the game went are very real. This is a pissed off team right now with a lot of talent. Everything that could have gone wrong for them did and they lost by a shanked 27 yard FG.

As an aside, they should use some of that NIL war chest to get a kicker!

I said that if I was wrong I will own up to it. Well here I am. Zero excuses for OSU. The only thing that I will say is that something has to be done about the CFP calendar. Seven out of 8 first round bye teams losing their first game is not a coincidence. Kudos to Indiana for being the exception but they were playing a grossly overrated Alabama team that was there because of the names on their uniforms.

But then if Indiana gets into the championship, they will have the advantage because they played one less game.

It's not about the one less game...that is an advantage
It's about the insane 26 days between games when the other team play 10 days ago. No one should be going a month without playing. It's not shocking they're losing.

So let’s go back to four teams and avoid the whole thing…then it’s an equal amount of time they all have to wait.

No...just start the playoff immediately when the season ends. 4 teams wasn't nearly enough. As the last 2 years have shown us. Why do you want a delay after the season? It doesn't make sense. No other sport does that.

Who cares what other sports do? If the teams that got the byes won 7 out of 8, would you be advocating they change?

Yes...I've said forever...eliminate CCGs...start the playoff immediately. End the season by 1/8 as the latest.
I don't understand why you think everyone makes decisions after seeing results. Just because the powers that be are slow to realize how dumb some of their ideas are doesn't mean we all are

And yes it matters what other sports do. There's zero logic on teams waiting a month to start a playoff.

No way. How can these kids play games during finals week? Let's not forget about educational attainment.
Why can every other sport?
Why is FCS?
They can easily play during finals week--you realize there's bowl games during finals weeks, right?
Accommodations can and will be made.
But 85% of these kids couldn't care less about their finals--it's just a requirement to playing football. Those Communications degree will be fine.

True but alas we have to wait for the peasants to catch up because, what I'm advocating for, will eventually happen--and I think you agree with that no matter how much you hate it.

I’m not sure what will happen these days. You think they will get rid of bowl games and I don’t. So we’ll see what happens and truthfully I don’t care what they do. I’ll just continue to watch Penn State and some other games that interest me and not make my life revolve around college football.

That would be awesome if it were true but you clearly care a lot.
They may keep bowl games but that's irrelevant. Deep down we all know they don't matter.
What will happen is the playoff will expand (probably to 24) and the timeline will move up
Just like I said they'd get rid of the conference winners getting a bye before last year even played out.

I care so much I watched a whopping two whole bowl games….Penn State’s game and the OSU Miami game.

I understand your point that 7 of 8 "bye teams" lost their opening game, but what I don't understand is how the 3- or 4-week layoff is worse than it was in past years.

For example, PSU finished its season around Thanksgiving with the Pitt game. Then about a month later with remarkable consistency won its Bowl game. In fact, I'd say the 1982 squad showed zero signs of "lag time" as it jumped all over top-ranked Georgia from the opening drive.

Perhaps you mean that the "bye teams" are at a disadvantage over the teams who played in the first round, However, such a seeming advantage would be lost if a first-round team lost starting players to injury.

Thus, it seems in my non-expert opinion, that the bye and the first-round games come with equal advantages and disadvantages.

Not “happy” for Indiana.

But there is something I can’t quite explain in which I don’t hate seeing the team that has been an absolute doormat my whole life is doing to all the big boys what they’ve been receiving for the last so many decades.

Indiana was always that team you wanted to see on your schedule because it was basically like another MAC opponent but counted towards your conference record. I still can’t totally comprehend seeing those helmets out-physical and push around helmets like Ohio State and Alabama.

At this point, I’m actively rooting for Indiana to win the whole thing. F the SEC, F Oregon, F Miami, Go Hoosiers.

Because in the past both teams had 3-4 weeks off as well
3 points combined in 8 games by the team with the layoff proves all you need to know--it doesn't work
There shouldn't be any disadvantages for the team with a bye

Maybe we just spot all the teams with a bye 10 points to start the game…I mean we need to give them all the advantages we can.

I don’t think IU will be able to sustain what they’re doing and the more I think about their season, the more I think the conference really wasn’t very good this year. Credit where it’s due, but a team that needed a miracle catch to beat us this year is not the best team in the country.
On the other hand when was the last time anybody beat Alabama that badly? Having Indiana become a football power sucks. We now need to climb over Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, USC, and Indiana... We are in the second tier with Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois in football now. I'm hopeful CMC can get us back to the top tier but it will be a climb and probably not an easy one. The sooner Cignetti calls it quits the better. Until them consider it an upset if we beat them. Sadly, Indiana is what everyone expected Penn State to be in this conference.

It’s not complicated, it’s just wrong. There’s nothing wrong with predetermining that your final 8 will be played at a neutral site. College basketball teams often never get a home game in the tournament no matter what their ranking is. Getting a free trip into the final eight is enough of an advantage.

Not with the month delay. In basketball they're waiting at most 2 weeks...most 1 week.
Again see FCS which works perfectly.
The fact you're even trying to argue there's no issue with 26+ days off is laughable.

Laughable to you and if the higher seeds would have won most of the games, you wouldn’t be arguing it either. You can say you would be, but we all know you wouldn’t.

I've argued the same thing throughout--unlike you my stances remain consistent. I've said for year we need a 24 team playoff, all conference winners, games at higher seed until the title game

Do you think that Alabama, LSU, Miami etc. are going to allow the possibility of having to go to Happy Valley or Columbus in January? I used to live in Columbus. It can be COLD in December or January.

My stance has remained consistent as well, conference tournaments and the winner of the four conferences play in the playoffs. You disagree with it, but it’s been consistent.

Because even you admit that isn't a possibility.
But the argument was I would change my stance which is untrue--I didn't say you did.

I guess a lot of people may think this is still just a flash in the pan for them, but I'm not a big fan of it. I always enjoyed the history and tradition of college football. If any bottom feeder can just somehow game the system and suddenly win it, then what's the point of the history and tradition?

I still wonder how many of their own fans would have rather been doing this in basketball. They play in a joke looking stadium. I don't know, it's just a real kick in the *** to go to a 110,000 seat stadium with the history and tradition of Penn State knowing hell, some basketball school with half the seats can beat this. I think the feeling still is that this won't be sustainable, because a lot more people would be pissed if it they thought it was.
