I’m not giving up. But I’m not sure what I’m watching. This game was like a Cal rock fight. I thought we were done with that. We did enough defensively to win easily. But so many offensive rebounds given up. One on one ISO offense. I’m not sure it can be fixed. We are a very mediocre team at this point.
It truly is amazing how Mitch has screwed up so much when it comes to MBB and honestly football. Hiring BCG and Joker Phillips. Negotiating contracts with ridiculous buyout provisions. The JMI deal. Sadly he is probably going to pick his successor.
I honestly don’t care about how good the “Olympic” sports are and they damn sure dont pay the bills. Mitch has started the decline of UK revenue sports with his lazy approaches to coaches. UK better not go good ole boy with the new AD.

Kids? they are being paid 1-2million dollars. they are employees and they are rich. they don't need you white knighting for them.
UK doesn’t have a dude unless possibly JQ is healthy. Pope assembled a very flawed team with top notch resources. Pope should being feeling a ton of heat.
This isn’t a period where it’s a 3-5 year rebuild timeframe. IU, one of the worst football programs in the history of college FB built a FB program in 1 year and year 2 is competing with the elites.
Pope had top resources and put this together in year 2 in a sport that is much easier to rebuild than football. Pope has nobody signed for next year. Nobody is wanting to come to UK. WHY?

There isn’t a single SEC school that would tolerate Mitch Barnhart except Kentucky. It’s baffling. Freaking LSU had the governor involved while we helplessly watch our basketball program collapse.
I just don't see it that way. He has a deep(when healthy) team, with a star(JQ) that he knew would ne out for a while. He knew he could get by with DA as the backup PG, but want counting on not having JL at all early on. PG is a big loss. Look at tge game tonight. The scoring drought was caused by never getting a good shot. I will judge Pope on the totality of the season, and I am certainly going to take into consideration whem they are banged up
I really don’t blame the players. Pope crapped the bed. He didn’t get a go to guy. Why not?
Can he not evaluate talent or can he not relate well enough to close those players? Resources weren’t the issue. How Pope chose to use said resources is the troubling part and next year is shaping up to be a rinse and repeat.
He didn’t learn from last year. He assembled a team that has nobody that can create and finish. A bunch of guys that have marginal handles. No elite shooter. Not having a backup at point is inexcusable with the resources he had.
He’s been running the show for 23 years, four final fours with one NC and one runner up. Also two NITs. Football is 134-151 since his arrival, baseball has made it to one CWS. And the dude hands out the dumbest contracts in the NCAA like it’s halloween candy. Unacceptable.
Imagine White-Knighting for some young men who make 10x more than you or I, and could not care less about you or me. This is Pro Basketball, expectations go up and tolerance for excuses are nil. I don’t live in hypotheticals. You can pretend all the outcomes you want. UNC is not very good and UK couldn’t score. UNC was missing a top player as well. I can pretend Pope would be undefeated and has an impressive class lined up or I can look at what is occurring.

Kentucky took a chance on a bunch of Role players that needed to mess into a TEAM . We knew BG was limited & CC & Noah weren’t super stars..OO is not the same as last year.

Look, Pope is clearly failing and I have zero problem saying that, but this Cal revisionist history is non sense. That team Cal would have had at UK last year would have been a borderline tournament team at best. Knox and Richmond weren’t even close to Edwards last year.
Mark Pope is simply out of his element. A guy with his resume shouldn't even be able to sniff a coveted job like UK basketball. Only a complete idiot like Mitch Barnhart would make such a stupid hire. The best thing Pope could do at this point if he truly cares about this program is to resign. He's just way in over his head.
Do GAF guys really exist at this level anymore? The Unforgettables last took the court more thaN 30 years ago, and I don’t beLieve that type of coach/player/program dynamic exists in modern college athletics.
POPE wants to be friends with his players not there coach, that doesn't work . He needs to be chewing some _ss or hand the reins back over to Barney so he can take us down a few more notches.

Definitely wasn't Aidoo and Johnell.
Cal would have brought in a few portal players had he stayed.
Knox and Richmond were definitely better as freshman than a lot of UK fans were expecting them to be.
Its a moot point but I think the roster Cal would have had at UK last year would have exceeded preseason expectations.

What they are really booing is that mass substitution that includes Garrison, that we've seen for 3 straight P5 games resulting in a momentum shift in the game. .
Pope has to see this, the guy is analytics , yet he still does it - hence the fan frustration and the boo's. No fan knows what goes on at practice, no fan knows what the real motivations are -but what they do know is that this has happened in 3 major games on the schedule and Pope keeps going back to it.
