Anyone else just a little nervous about this game?

It's hard to accept that we may have finally moved past the days of huge letdowns. It would be just like old school ms state to completely shat the bed after finally getting a little respect. Please convince me I have nothing to worry about with this game

Every game is critical. And I am very old school. I'm going to the homecoming game, anyway. We are MSU, we have to line up every weekend and play, often against some of the best teams in the nation.

Not really

I think our coaching staff will have us prepared enough to win this game, because we are only 6-0. We want to be 7-0. Our coaching staff will relate that to our players and make sure they know before the game starts.

The fans need to be there to support the team though. We have to have a good atmosphere. It is a night game and should have a good crowd for homecoming; but I know even though we haven't had a lot of (sustained) success, we as fans can still take our good football teams for granted and leave a little bit of that stadium empty when lesser opponents come to town.

Under JWS and Croom I would be but with Dan Mullen as coach I'm not. He has us to the point that we should expect to win these type games.

We've got good leadership on the team and after the big win last week I think they all understand what's on the line, and we can't let up. I don't think we see a Troy performance tonight. I'm predicting an easy win.

If that running back were healthy, I'd be concerned how we'd perform, but we would win the game.

My main concern is this game is a piss poor prep for Bama.

Their backup went for over a 100 yards on just ten carries last week

And was an LSU signee. Sure we should win this game easily but it has the makings of a classic trap game. Just pregame jitters for me I guess

If it was on the road, yes, I would be.....

....but at home I think we'll win by two touchdowns. I could also see us completely blowing them out early. But if I had to bet I think it'll be a creepy game with us winning solidly, but never to the point where we can put in the backups completely.

You sure it was last week? Cunningham went for over 200 last week. His backup went for 30. They had a receiver go for over 100

Good lord, some of you people are hopeless. No. I'm not nervous at all about this game. We will win. I swear I think that some of you people must have post traumatic stress after the 1980s and 2000s. At some point, you're just going to have to let it go and move on. We're not the same program that we were then.

Get off your high horse. You can't blame anyone for thinking along that line...

...We are Mississippi State, we have a football history, and it's not a good one. Mullen also has a history of making these games too close for comfort. Sooner or later, if it keeps up, we WILL lose one of them. Have to keep the foot on the gas, or prepare/motivate better. I won't care as long as we get the win, but don't ******* chastise people for thinking MSU is susceptible to a trap game. In a few more years, if we are still winning consistently, maybe that underlying feeling will dissipate. But even the top teams play these down games.

YOU are the one who's only half *** paying attention to history and logic.

If you have been a Bulldog fan for very long you should be nervous...

about every game. History says to worry.

That was all purpose yards. The guy had 3returns for 88 yards. 8 rushes for 28 yards.

Matt is a good guy, but beyond the 1st hand qb stories, he's not much on analysis.

One more thing to ease your mind: fiu had 2 recvrs over 100 yards vs mtsu and one more at 70 yards.

All the money is going to MTSU - FWIW

We're down to only a 17 point favorite and maybe even less by game time.

Hell yeah I'm worried!

I've got us at -20

We are Miss. State

Like someone just posted, until we have a few more seasons of consistent winning then maybe that feeling will dissipate.

We should win this game very decisively but will we?

7-14 pt win would be fine with me. Just get to 7-0! Worry about bama tomorrow.

Since we're using history as a reason to feel nervous, tell me just how many games a Dan Mullen coached Mississippi State team has lost when favored by more than a touchdown? This ain't the Croom or Sherrill eras.

No, it's not the Croom or Sherrill eras, but remember last year at UAB? And this year at Troy? We can still be flat under Mullen.

Don't forget La. Tech last year, too (a VERY close OT game we should have lost). I'm undoubtedly nervous about our game today. They are going to play balls to the wall and emotional while we are going to play just to win the game today... nothing more. Give them any breaks and we could be in trouble if we don't produce, especially on defense.

Memphis scored 30 pts on this defense....MEMPHIS

And they lost to McNeese St. Nice win over Ga. Tech but their defense is SWAC calibre, so no, we should have this game wrapped up at half time. No excuses! Trap game my big white ***.

The difference is 1) UAB was never close to scoring points last year against us, it was our mediocre offense under Relf that kept it close in the first half. We fixed that in the 2nd half with Russell and it's not an issue this year.

2) LaTech has proven to be a good, well-coached team, and we just didn't know it then.

3) Troy was at Troy, where they were previously 2-0 against BCS teams, and we did get out to a 23-7 lead at the half. Probably coasted too much at that point.

I think that we possibly could have been surprised by MTSU if we had played them back earlier in the season, like when they upset Georgia Tech, but now, with us knowing more about them, we will take them seriously enough and not just spend the week preparing for Alabama.

It is a Tyrone Nix defense... let that sink in. Is it really possible to worry about that?

I agree with what you said... and I'm not saying we SHOULDN'T win. However, these are the games that we tend to coast through and let the opponent hang around just enough. We should win (probably by more than a touchdown), but I'm still nervous we let them hang around enough to make it much closer than it should.

Defense better be ready to play today.

hate to break this to you, but tyrone wasnt their problem

It was the entire staff, head coach, players they recruited, and athletic director that lead them to be so pathetic.

Tyrone isnt good, but he isnt nearly as bad a coach as OM played under him.

I will always get nervous before playing teams like MTSU due to all the losses

State endured during Jackie's last years and the Croom years to no-name teams. It wouldn't surprise me for State to lose this game tonight with all that's on the line, and then beat Bama next week and go 11-1 and miss out on the National Title due to a stupid loss to MTSU. However, I think we win this one by 10. We'll keep it close because we're State and like to give the fans a collective heart attack.
