The difference is 1) UAB was never close to scoring points last year against us, it was our mediocre offense under Relf that kept it close in the first half. We fixed that in the 2nd half with Russell and it's not an issue this year.
2) LaTech has proven to be a good, well-coached team, and we just didn't know it then.
3) Troy was at Troy, where they were previously 2-0 against BCS teams, and we did get out to a 23-7 lead at the half. Probably coasted too much at that point.
I think that we possibly could have been surprised by MTSU if we had played them back earlier in the season, like when they upset Georgia Tech, but now, with us knowing more about them, we will take them seriously enough and not just spend the week preparing for Alabama.
