Anyone else surprised we burned Reed that way?

He's been one of our most effective relievers and we just threw him out there for 8 innings - so he's burned for the rest of the weekend.

Plus there is no way he was physcially prepared for 8 innings when I think his max this year is probably 2, maybe 3.

I would like to think Cohen wanted to keep the game as close as possible, assuming we were going to be able to hit and put up more than 2 runs.

I think it was a good move becuase it saved our bullpen for the rest of the weekend. (Relatively speaking here) Our starters have been going about three innings or less in each of their last few outings. We're probably going to need them, and don't forget, we don't know if or when Ben Bracewell will pitch, and Nick Routt is out as well.

Cohen needs to go to starting "teams"- one guy pitches three innings, and then the next guy pitches three, then you go to your bullpen/set-up guys. It might look something like this.

Fri- Graveman, Bole, Reed then closer

Sat. Stratton (maybe give him a little bit longer leash than three innings, the one exception), Houston then closer

Sun.- Watson, Girodo, Reed again, closer

The closers would be Ben Bracewell and Devin Jones.

What I tried to do is mix it up so that we have a variety of pitchers that contrast each other in some way- Hard thrower, then soft thrower, LH and then a RH pitcher, over the top and then submarine to try to give us an advantage.
