Anyone else think Preseason #19 is too low?

I sure do. I think we are better than Tennessee, but I guess since they've been in the national spotlight the last few years they are gonna get the national love. I think we are top 15 even without Renardo. We are returning pretty much everybody. I would figure that if we come out of the South Padre Invitational undefeated with a win over Missouri we might get some more national recognition.

I was wondering the same thing. Does Tennessee have enough returning talent that they deserve to be ranked higher than us -- or is it just that we are MSU and have to prove ourselves more? Real question - not just being wooly.

We are essentially getting a bump because of Reik and Sidney. Riek is not close to 100 percent (and won't play the first nine games) and Sidney might not play at all. Everyone else may be a returnee but they are returnees that only made the NCAAs because we made a run and won the SEC Tournament. I think people are forgetting that - it's not like we earned our way into the NCAAs with a strong regular season. Had we not won the SEC Tournament we would have been either NIT bound or at home. AND those returnees that made the NCAAs still got beat pretty badly in the first round.

I think one of the greatest misconceptions in college sports is that just because a player is a year older they have somehow improved and gotten "better." Not everyone improves and some people even regress - Lord knows we've seen enough of that over the years in all sports.

I think we need to prove it in the regular season before we start saying things like "we're ranked too low" or "anything other than the Sweet 16 is a disappointment."

we have 3 guards that could start on any team in the SEC. turner can back up either guard spot, and though he lacks the great ballhandling of a true point guard, his athleticism and defense will make up for that. plus, bost will play LOTS of minutes, so we won't need great backup PG play - just solid play for short minutes, which we should be able to manage with stewart/turner. add to the mix that ravern johnson can play the 2 if we go big at the 3. though not a true wing/slasher, he can flat out shoot and has hopefully improved his driving and pull-up shots.

most teams settle on about an 8 man rotation. i think our top 8 are going to be very good.

also, we started 4 guards last year, and all return. that should be good guard depth with good experience.

Yes, we are returning all of our players. And yes they will be more experienced. But...........yes, they are the same team that had to sweep the SEC tourney to make the big dance. Although we may be much improved and will have some contributing newcomers our team is still technically unproven. And that's the basis for the ranking.

This suits me though. Everyone knows how MSU teams of any sport react to preseason love. We tank

With a 2nd rebounder on the court, the team you saw the last 6 games was the team we could have been all year. That's gonna be the difference this year. We will have a 2nd rebounder on the floor at the 4 position the whole year instead of Phil Turner. Jarvis will finally have some help on the glass, and we can compete more for offensive rebounds. I think the team we saw in the SEC Tourney is the type of team we will see most of the year this year.

but after watching Saturday Osby looked much improved, and if Augustus stays out of trouble with Stansbury that makes the team a lot better than last year. Wendell Lewis will probably contribute more than Elgin Bailey.

We get some pub without the pressure of a high ranking. MSU never does well in any sport when highly ranked.

Preseason rankings are worthless. Win, and you move up. Lose, and you drop. Thankfully, there's a real playoff tournament at the end anyway.
