Anyone else wonder why Bama and LSU are picked to win the West?

I am obviously speaking of basketball but why do most publications and prognosticators have these two picked at the top of the West. Bama finished 5-11 in the SEC last year, lost Hendrix, and still have Gottfried as a coach. I don't see a post injury Ronald Steele making that big of a difference. LSU finished 6-10 and 13-18 overall, has a new coach, and didn't they lose one of their best players to the NBA draft?(whose name I cannot remember)

i suppose they feel that MSU losing 3 starters is more to overcome than either Bama or LSU needs to overcome concerning their losses.
we lost our best post scorer, leading rebounder, assists leader, third leading rebounder, 4th leading scorer, 2nd leading assist maker, best outside shooter, and best FT shooter. hell, we lost two 1st team all SEC players.
thats what Hansbrough, Jamont, and Rhodes brought.

so LSU losing Randolph isnt quite the same.

and Bama losing Hendrix isnt quite the same.

and the preseason predictions are made by, i feel, people who look at who left and who stayed on the team. they then figure teams that dont lose many players, and were decent have talent on the team will be good. while teams that lose a lot of players, and those players were key cogs, they wont be as good.
just look at Arkansas...they lost basically everyone, and were picked to finish very low.

LSU lost an NBA player, but they also get Mitchell back from injury.
Bama lost Hendrix, but they got one of the best post players in the country in Green to replace him.
