after we beat TX in 1991 and 1992 that said on the front - Don’t Mess With Texas
On the back it said- STATE messed with Texas and had the 1991 score and the 1992 score ?

I was at both games then I had to ruin it with the 1999 Cotton Bowl. Must admit that the "talent" in the stands at the game in Austin was probably the best I've seen.

I was there in 1991. 36,000 at that game. Much better weather this weekend and will probably have about the same crowd.

Edward Williams and Michael Davis were beasts in the 91 game. Everyone was national champions afterward.

Hard to believe the 1992 game has now been over 33 years ago.

That '92 game in Austin still has one of the best personal fouls I've ever seen when Mike James ploughed into the Texas punt returner early. It was great. That was also the game that Kevin Bouie and James both tore their ACLs.

Ah, nostalgia . . .

I'll always remember those first two years of the Kang, for multiple reasons:

- My first memories of MSU football were 1987. So between then and 1990 you know exactly how that had shaped me......losing 18-14 to USM, Tech and 10, couple 5-6 years that ended with an Ole Miss beating in Jackson, etc. As a kid I remember asking my grandad, does Mississippi State ever get beyond the 50 yard line? So essentially I thought State football was just an exercise in futility.
- 1991 we come in and just beat down CSF and beat Texas. Then we beat Auburn which I thought wasn't possible. It was shocking to see us be good at football.
- We watched the Texas game on the cable box PPV....channel 31. IYKYK. Just beat the crap out of them. Remember thinking it wasn't normal for us to take care of business like that.
- Was reminded the next week that we are still Mississippi State, as the first of the two consecutive Baton Rouge beatdowns to a crappy LSU team in week 2 commenced.
- Beat Flarrda, but Sleepy goes down. Shlt.
- Do some good things, but lose to Bama and lose horrifically to Ole Miss on that goal line stand and start to feel the first sting of true fan despair, that really only an MSU fan can experience. Then the Peach Bowl choke, after hearing all these State and UNC fans talking smack on MARTA and getting fired up thinking that we were actually gonna back it up. NOPE.

But overall two pretty solid years. Then 1993 I discover how bad MSU fans love the backup QB and how toxic we can really be.

The thread a few weeks ago.... unpopular hot takes or something... anyways the 91 and 92 seasons remind me..... my hot take .... Rocky could have coached those teams to 7-5. Those teams were loaded with talent.

91 was an up and down season. We start 3-0 with win over Texas. We do the same ole losing to ut and UF. Beat Kentucky lose to Memphis st at home. Beat OM. Lose to airforce. that team should have went 9-3.

92 was less volatile but still typical msu. We started 4-1 but don't show up in Columbia. Get to 7 wins with a big home game v bama. Same out come as always.... finish up with losses to Bama, OM and the bowl.

But with all that said, it's hard to imagine today how far down the program was. I remember the 1991 and 92 bowls being awesome experiences. Disappointing losses but proud of state for getting there.

Had one, don't recall the caption, but it had a line of mascots waiting for a turn behind a medical screen, waiting to get their snip.
Wore that one until it just couldn't be saved.
