Anyone interested in the NBA ruling on Sterling?

Have a question? Why was this particular conversation taped? I'm not condoning one thing that fool said but seems awful strange that his "girlfriend" is having this conversation with him and seems to be prodding him on more and more about color. How did TMZ get this audio or were they part of some scheme? He got what he deserved but how he got there is somewhat questionable.

You do know that EVERY SINGLE NBA PLAYER was going to walk out tonight, right? EVERY SINGLE ONE. Add that to the fact that almost every single point you have made in this thread is so wrong it's funny, plus with your history of posting defending Sterling isn't surprising. The NBA can absolutely make him sell, it's part of the contract he signed when he bought.

Oh really? You seriously don't think he's done anything to diminish the value of his asset?

That's easy

It was taped, because he was set up.

As Jakldawg said above :

just don't vocalize your prejudices to your cleat-chasing gold-digging girlfriend.

Ill add, that is being sued by your estranged wife.

If you think the NBA, NFL, or MLB operate in a "market driven" system, YOU move to China since you're too silly & unobservant to live in a decent place like the USA

According to the girlfriend (he hasn't commented on this) part of her job was to be his archivist. She is apparently some type of self-described "journalist" and has hundreds of hours of tapes of them talking. From all indications he knew he was being recorded. Again, according to her, she didn't release the tape. Yes, she is a gold-digging ***** but I have yet to figure out exactly how releasing this tape helps her. He had already given her three luxury sports cars (including a candy-apple red Ferrari), a 1.6 million dollar condo and over a quarter of a million in cold cash. Her gold-digging was going just fine without releasing this tape.

I think his wife found it and released it. She is suing the girlfriend and has made it pretty clear she was going to try and get control of the Clippers away from him. Given what the wife was working on it makes more sense that she released the tape. She is probably going to see some gain from it.

So come on back to the discussion CookieMonster and eat your crow.

Bump this when it's fully resolved. Adam Silver talks a big game, but there are some huge ramifications to what he intends to do. How many other owners, even the ones who've voiced that they'd vote to remove Sterling, have racist or homophobic comments (or even worse, campaign contributions) attributed to their name? Is the Orlando Magic's owner ready to be forced to sell his team? He's on the record as opposing gay marriage.

Furthermore, why doesn't the first amendment apply here? Did not the government get involved by condemning him? Obama denounced Sterling. The mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, met with Silver to discuss what should be done! Why are federal and municipal officials getting involved in punishing someone for something said in private? That smells like a first amendment violation to me (but I'm no lawyer). Although, maybe I just don't understand it at all.

My guess is that this is FAR from over. Sterling is a litigation guy after all. I think he'll fight it and could even win (albeit a pyrrhic victory) to some degree. But the smart money says he dies before any of this gets settled (like Joe Paterno). He is 81 after all.

Maybe I'm wrong about all of this. But I'm VERY uncomfortable with anyone (even a sleaze ball like Sterling) being forced to do anything because of things they've said in private. You never know when what you think and say might be deemed unacceptable.

I understand this situation enough...

And certainly don't know how it works. The nba can absolutely force an owner to sell, just as they can tell someone who they may sell it to, or who they may not.

...to know that the NBA exists in a very tenuous position (as do all pro sports leagues). Those powers of which you speak aren't actually protected if the league loses an anti-trust decision.

The ironic thing is that if Sterling files an anti-trust suit against the NBA it might actually strengthen the NBA against the player's union. Read this article for more on that. The court would be in the precarious position of either siding for Sterling or granting the league powers what would enable them to bring the players' union to heel to an even greater degree.

Owners are shaking in their boots right now. They HAVE to vote Sterling out, but are scared to death of what he might tell the media about dumb stuff they might have said to him at a cocktail party 10 years ago. This is going to get interesting.

Thanks for chiming in with that. We would have never known otherwise.
