the word drama instead of baggage. I wasn't referring to him being bought etc. My point was more of the soap opera that has surrounded his high school career. He left St. Georges like the Colts left Baltimore, in the middle of the night. He "established" residency in Desoto County in time to enroll there for the beginning of the school year in MS, knowing he couldn't enroll directly at Melrose and be eligible. Then, he left Desoto later in the fall and "established" residency in the Melrose district so he would be eligible there. I did not see him play last year at Melrose, but am told he came off the bench for about 5 points per game. Granted Melrose was awful talented..still. Now, I can't confirm this but I was told he was currently playing this year in the Phillipines. Again, I am not positive of this.
As for his talent, no doubt he is a decent player. But to me, he really is one of those guys without a position. Not a point...not a 2....not a 3...and obviously not a post player. But, I'm sure Stans must see something I guess. I also question him being a 4 star. I don't think the Memphis offer is legit. Not sure he even has a commitable offer from State either.
You are right about the coaching job at St. Georges last year. Great job. And I can tell you firsthand, he enjoyed last year as much as any year with the guys he had. The player you mentioned, Asa Toney was a great HS player with a great attitude. He signed with Maryville College. The year before, St. Georges with Parks as a Soph lost at the buzzer in the State Championship game with Parks and 4 chairs on the floor. That was a good coaching job. The year you mention with the loss to Harding, they had a good year with 28-3 record but just had a terrible shooting night vs Harding. No doubt that team was loaded. And that brings up this point with Parks. He felt he needed to transfer from St. Georges to get a better look for college. How does one argue that point when Williams signed with Duke, transferred to Memphis and got drafted in the NBA this year and Bowers signed with Mizzou? I'd say that if you can play...you can play. And he was getting a great education at St. Georges...something I would think Melrose would be a tad below! Anyway...just my two cents.
