Anyone notice the changes to Will Cox. Course, he hasn't pitched in some time

but that surprised me. I guess that's something they've been working on with him. Will needs to get his velocity up but I think he has the frame to do that in the next year or so.

Velocity was an issue for Will when he got here.

He's gotten better with it, but if he will contend for a starting job, his pitches need a bit more movement or change of speeds need to be more pronounced. He's got what it takes, though.

I usually like dropping a Guy down when he lacks velocity or movement but not In this case. Will is just a sophomore and had flashes of being outstanding in pre-sec. I know the competition level wasn't the same but he had the stuff to be able to step in and give us quality weekend starts over the next couple years with just a small amount of improvement. I may be wrong but I think his ceiling is greater with his old mechanics.

I agree. I think that is a mistake with Will. Butch has some infatuation with side arm guys though. Whatever makes him useful though, and Butch knows better than me.

Maybe they should just work on getting him stronger and getting his velocity

up and continue with his old release but work with him to drop down on occasion like Caleb Reed did. If he's going to be a starter I'd say that's the way to go.

I've seen some MLB starters drop down on occasion- David Cone comes to mind for some reason.
