Seriously, don't mess around with it or just wait for it to go away - go see a professional. Even if they say you're fine, the only thing you have to lose is a co-pay and an hour of your time. If nothing else, take an online quiz to see if you have the symptoms.
I have had major depression for the last 35 years with the last ten years being in acute condition. When it was at its worst I would think about suicide anywhere from thirty to over one hundred times a day. When I started to make plans is when I went to Bluegrass.org on Newtown Pike for help.I learned that when a hormone called seratonin moves from one nerotransmitter to another not all of the seratonin makes the complete move. When it goes back into the sending transmitter it is called "waste" and is the leading cause of depression.I now take an SSRI ( Selective Seratonin reuptake inhibator) call Sertraline (Zoloft). I feel much better and suicide thoughts have all but gone away. When you need help please seek it. It makes a world of difference.

I have an anxiety disorder and take an SSRI, it has helped a great deal. The medications work for a lot of people without making you feel numb or changing your personality.
Whatever you do, don't listen to this ***. Dude raped girls in college and calls his mother weekly. Weak human being.

Dealt with it about 25 years ago....I thought I was just unhappy with work, overwhelmed. Thought that was just what life was. I went to visit a therapist/actually my pastor took me. He diagnosed me with depression after about 15 minutes. Made me feel better to know that there was a problem. Called my mom...who proceeded to tell me she, my grand parents and my aunt had taken meds for depression for years.... I decided to go the therapy route with no meds because I wanted to solve the problem, not just medicate it. IMO, that's the best route. Therapy helps change thought distortions, etc... Sometimes meds are necessary.

"Back in the Nineties when I was feeling a bit down, I went to a therapist a few times, at a hundred bucks a pop. But then I realized that no therapy session would ever cheer me up half as much as if I was just strolling along and found a hundred dollar bill."
