Anyone on here have Dish Network???

I've had DirecTV for about 8 years. For the past 5 years, I've been asking them about when we'll get our local networks actually broadcast in HD via DirecTV. Each time I call, they say I'll have them in the next 6 months. Still no HD locals here in Starkville. So, when MSU plays on CBS, my standard def feed looks like crap!!!! It SUCKED trying to watch the Super Bowl in SD on a 150" projection screen.

I've read where Dish Network ACTUALLY broadcasts the locals in the Starkville area in HD. So, because of that, I've been thinking of swapping over.

Anyone on here got Dish Network? Have you been able to get all the MSU football and basketball games that have been on TV? You satisfied with Dish?

For those that know, why should I NOT switch to Dish Network?

I live in Brandon, MS and have direct tv and my locals are in HD

because of the same situation. It took some getting used to at first, but I'm glad I made the switch. There have been a few times where I couldn't get MSU games, but for the most part I get them if they are on. Now that ESPN took over, it hasn't happened this year.

If Directv would have given me locals, I would still have DTV. Dish did give me locals, and now they are in HD which is icing on the cake.

Don't know about Starkville locals, but I get all of Birmingham networks in HD. Only setback here is when Bama/Auburn are on at the same time, but that's not Dish's problem. Dish does not broadcast CSS games, but I don't think DTV does either. Have always had success negotiatinga better price, too.

for nearly seven years now and love it. Yes, the locals in HD is a perk (live in Tupelo). Have no problem getting all of State's games in HD. Previous poster is correct in that neither Dish or Direct have CSS at the moment, however, I read something in the Daily Journal a couple weeks ago where the FCC will require CSS to allow them to offer sporting events. Hoping it goes through in time for some college baseball.

I spring an extra 5.95 amonth for the sports package, which includes the NFL Red Zone, which is awesome (best parts of NFL games, no commercials). The package includes all the regional Fox Net channels. The only cons I can think of for Dish is if you are a big MLB fan you can't order Extra Innings and they don't have the MLB Network on board yet.

Have DirectTV now, and like it a lot better. Better reception in bad weather, better guide functionality, better channel selection, and better service. The price is lower, but having to shell out for the equipment up front offsets that. Dish will let you "rent" your gear.
If one had locals and the other didn't, though....that's a big difference.

I have Direct TV also and the only downfall is no local HDs. However, I think I read on here once about getting local HD if you hook up cheap walmart rabbit ears. Maybe I'm dreaming but does anyone here remember that being discussed?

Every tournament game in HD. Forget being bounced around by CBS. Four games going on at once? Pick the one you want. Two Sweet Sixteen games overlapping? Flip back and forth as you please.

. . . you're still "renting" from Directv too, regardless if you shelled out $199 for an HD-DVR. Since about 2006, all DTV equipment is leased.

Still, Directv beats Dish hands down. They just launched their newest satellite in December, and starting around May or so, there are no more excuses for not expanding the HD lineup and adding more locals.

You can buy an AM21 over-the-air receiver that you connect your antenna to--preferably an outside one, not cheap Walmart antenna--and all the local HD channels that you have will "sync" into your guide and integrate into the channels that you get from Directv. I know several folks that have these and swear by them.

This HD market, Starkville, Columbus, West Point, Tupelo, has not been picked up and it not on the list of coming areas. Hopefully soon.

My problem is that I've TRIED and antenna. I tried rabbit ears on the TV inside and could only pick up WCBI out of Columbus. I could not pick up WTVA, WLOV and WKDH (NBC, FOX, ABC) which all broadcast off the same tower about 20 miles due North of my house. I've got a metal roof and that kills digital TV signal. So, I tried a larger antenna outside my house on the porch. Still only WCBI. I'm surrounded by 60' tall pine trees which I was told kills cell phone and digital TV signals. I've also got a 500Kv TVA power line about 500 ft through the woods just North of my house. I was told that it also interferes with digital TV signal. There is also a ridge line just past the TVA line that blocks my line of sight to the WTVA tower. So, from what everyone is telling me, I'm screwed antenna wise. They say I'd have to put an antenna on top of at least a 60' pole to get above the pine trees and maybe above the power line and ridge line. Would be iffy weither it would work or not.

Adding to the antenna problem, I've got five TVs and only one has a build in digital HD receiver. All other TVs would require me purchase a receiver. Then, I'd have to run antenna wire throughout the house which would be VERY difficult now that the house is complete. Estimates are over $1500 just to get a <17> antenna set up that might not even work. BS!!!

I could get other market locals in HD from DirecTV if my local channels would grant a waiver. But for the past 6 attempts over 5 years, they won't grant the waiver.

Since all is wired for DirecTV, the simple way to get my HD locals would be for DirecTV to pick them up but no telling when that will happen. I figured I could swap over to Dish by just simply changing out the dish and receivers. If I liked Dish, I'd keep it. If I didn't like it, I'd keep it till DirecTV picked up my locals.

I've never heard of MetroCast but Comcast HD is WAY compressed and looks downright ****** on some channels. I can't imagine that satellite is worse

Check out DirecTV's AM21-Off Air Tuner.... Hooks up to your off air anntenna and plugs in to you HD DVR Receiver... By doing this you will have all your local channels in HD as well as embedded into your DirecTV guide so you will not have the leave HDMI mode to watch your local channels in high definition and they will also be on your guide so you can scroll and DVR programs just like you can the other DirecTV programs purchased on your package.

It definitely works with Dish Network. I'm in Cleveland, MS and get all the Memphis locals b/c we told customer service we are still at our old Southaven address. We moved, a guy came and installed the satellite at our new house, and I just called the 800 number and made an address change to still get the Memphis locals.

I live too far out in the sticks to get cable. It's either DirecTV, Dish Network or antenna.
