Toying around with the idea of buying one and was curious if any fellow Paddock members had any first-hand experience. I understand it has a lot more going on than a traditional stationary bike.

Pros? Cons? TIA.

My wife bought an Echelon a few months ago and she loves it. Also a better price point, and they are made right here in Chattanooga and Miami, whereas Pelaton is made in Taiwan

I don't own one, but I do have some insight gained from a number of friends who went down that road -- metaphorically of course.

If you need some stranger yelling at you through a video screen to get you motivated to exercise, you are not serious about it. Before very long you will be sitting stationary on the seat, eating an eclair and telling the hyper-perky instructor to go Bleep herself. While you pay for that privilege.

Are "Pelatons" the knock-off version of Pelotons that are sold out of the back of white vans in parking lots?
I got mine from Wish.

Buy a pair of running shoes. Open the front door. Run.

If your reaction to that advice is, “that’s too hard” or “that’s too boring” then you are not serious about working to get in shape and soon will feel the same way about riding a Peloton.

Good used road bike - $1000
Smart trainer - $800
Zwift subscription - $15/month

Far cheaper than the Peloton, and you have the ability to ride outside like God and Lance Armstrong intended.
Love zwift, but it's really intended for cyclist. Also, the play is to use old road bike after upgrading to a new road bike. 😉

Peleton isn't cheap but a really solid product. Wife uses it a ton.

Been waiting for this thread for a while, and can't wait to muck it up!

95% of the Pelaton experience can be had for half the money. Companies are making spin bikes that start at around $700 that can link resistance and cadence to the Pelaton app. And you can even argue that there's benefits to this as you're not stuck using Pelaton's app, and instead, you can use Zwift, watch Youtube videos, use other apps, etc.

I currently use a Bowflex C6 which was about $900, and then the GF and I each have tablets that we use for different apps.

Yes, love it. Easily the best "healthy" investment i've ever made. I always wondered why people looked like they were about to die after a spinning class. Now I know.

Peloton

That’s how you spell it, people.

And I love mine. I’ve had it for just over 2 years. I use it more in the cold months because I typically like to be outside running when it’s nice.

I've got a 2500 dollar treadmill, collecting dust in the garage, that my c*** ex-wife "just HAD to have"

Stupid b1tch.
I have a $1300.00 dollar exercise stepper my wife bought over 2 years ago in the master bedroom. Her and my daughter used it for about a month during the New Years resolution phase and never used it again. Keeps saying she will but...In the next couple of months it will be going the way of the electric smoker that she ask for about 4 Christmases ago and never used. It is now setting in the second smaller portion of my 40x40 shop we have out back. Second portion is used for unused items we have and eventually as it gets cluttered that stuff disappears.

Wife gets pissed for a couple of days and then...forgets about it.

Nothing burns fat like well done strength training, and steady state cardio is nothing more than really weak strength training, plus it releases cortisol from your brain which further aids fat storage. Biking and jogging can be good if you enjoy it but otherwise it’s a less effective way to lose muscle mass, store fat and destroy your joints (less so on the bike)

Slow, controlled, deliberate stress and stimulus applied to the muscle is the way to gain lean muscle mass which burns fat even as you sleep. Can be done with body weight, dumbbells, resistance bands, etc. My purchase was a used set of Bowflex 552 dumbbells and combination of resistance bands from Under Sun and Clench. Everything fits in a drawer and the dumbbells right on top of a table. Total cost: 400 for me

Was 232.... lost 23 lbs in 6 weeks and 40 lbs in 6 months. 195 today at 6’2” and lifting four times per week plus boxing for HIIT training. All very little cash or space

The guy training me has a National online program that is cheaper to deal with, will work, and doesn’t take up your whole living room. Message me if you want me to link you - I don’t make any money off of it. Just passionate about the fact that it works

Bought my wife the Schwinn IC3 bike for her birthday. Her gym hasn't done workout classes since last spring, so she'd been looking for something. She pays for the monthly Pelaton service so she can watch the classes on her iPad, but without the Pelaton bike you can't compare your performance data vs friends, strangers, and also your historical performance. That's the magic behind Pelaton's business plan, IMO. It is a social network, and the class instructors are becoming influencers. I usually run outside, and lift in the basement, but I'll admit having the bike/classes when it's 20 degrees outside has been nice this month.

I think if you use it enough, like anything else, then a Pelaton is worth it. Worse thing in the world IMO would be to buy one, and the hang drying clothes from it. If she keeps using her Schwinn 3-4 time a week then we'll probably upgrade down the road.

Your brain produces cortisol? Might want to have a doctor look into that before it explodes.
