I guess all of this reminising going on made me think of how in 1965 State got off to a 4-0 start and was ranked in the top 10.
I was in the Army getting ready to head to Vietnam.
Yes, boys and girls, back in those days old Uncle Sam could reach out and pluck you right out of yo' momma's loving arms.
I graduatedin the summer of '64 and was drafted in September of '64...swept away into Combat Engineer training, along with a lot of other graduate engineers.
Four games into the season, I rememberhearing about the how students at MSU would sing the old Dave Clark Five hit, "CatchUs If You Can" at the ball games.
I fell into the trap and began to really brag on our team.
We lost the next six games. Lesson learned.
I say this now, because I feel like we have really turned a corner in our program, and we are destined to actually be front runners.

It was played over the loudspeaker as the team came out of the tunnel to start the game.
After winning 4, we lost to "Spook" Murphy and his Memphis team. Our coach was Paul Davis.

That set the tone for the rest of the season. After our 4th loss, someone suggested we change our slogan to "Catch Us....You Can."

I was a kid then, but I remember.
We played Bama in Jackson, and Hoyle got 100+, and got drafted, in the first round by the Houston Oilers./ latertraded to the Saints.
My Dad took me to Hattiesburg to watch him work out at the Saints pre-seasontraining camp.

Word was, when he got to Houston, he had no clue what an Audible was.
