I have not heard any of that, and wonder where it is coming from.... I have only heard positive things about Scott.

saying that Stricklin was LT v2.0 because of various reasons. I have met Stricklin twice and he is actually very engaging in short conversations which to me means, he is nothing like LT.

BUT, I think he is far from a slam dunk. I am slightly concerned by the fact that he's never been at any of his previous jobs for more than a few years. I've also heard rumblings through the grapevine that at each of his previous stops he was good at kissing *** of the people above him but that he treated the people below him like shite. Now, full disclosure, I have no idea if that is true but that's just what I've heard.

My only hope is that Keenum really is doing a national search and that we are looking for a progressive, aggressive AD with a lot of energy. If we do undertake a national search for someone with those qualities and Stricklin ends up being the guy then I welcome him with open arms.

And this may be the jilted lover side of me talking but, Greg Byrne, I appreciate what you did for us in your short time here, but you can go suck it. I hope Arizona suffers from years of NCAA investigations.

white hughes is a good candidate for all the reasons listed above. waiver: i don't know any of the others. i will say that working with the MDA and managing that government insitution is a bigger task than managing an athletic dept.</p>

whoever we name is highly likely to be a step down from Byrne. Still irked that Greg didn't stay longer than he did.

Does Whit have any experience in athletic administration? No. Until he gets some experience in that department, he is unqualified to be an Athletic Director at an SEC institution. Period.

significant experience in the area of major college athletics. A good business head on his shoulders goes without saying, but it needs to be in the realm of athletic administration/fundraising. I am beginning to think that Brad Teague should get a strong look. At first, I didn't think he would get really serious consideration, and he may not, but I believe he should. Especially after some of the comments I have heard/read over the past few weeks.

Stricklin = 20 years experience in athletic departments
Hughes = 0 years experience in athletic departments.

This is not a reflection on Whit as a person -- I know him fairly well, and like him a lot. But I would be worried about ANYBODY going into this job with no experience... It's too important right now, with the future of all the big 3 sports in question. I've hired people with no experience before, and most of the first couple years is spent teaching them how not to screw up.

Hire Strick as AD, and Whit (if he wants to gain experience) as Associate AD. Then we're set for the foreseeable future.

If I'm remembering correctly, isn't he the guy whose daddy's preacher was on the Ole Miss plane with Houston Nutt when they were discussing how much to pay Massey to counter Alabama. I think Tuberville was on it too for some reason.

Does anyone else remember that thread? I think he came back, recanted the story, and hasn't been seen since. I guess the preacher had a come to Jesus talk with him.

Have now read the blog. I agree. The posts I have read ( a bunch) have been 95%+ positive concerning Scott S. I hope Matt's blog does not unintentionly hurt Scott S by giving the impression that there is some groundswell against him.

You're exactly right Memphis. It spotlights even more how directly opposite those few comments were from 95% of what you hear from those who've met/worked with Scott.

I like certain things about several of the candidates, Whit, Villarreal from North Texas, Massaro from MTSU, Scott. I'm glad its not my decision to make.

That said, this was a personal thing for me. Stuff said on a board just wasn't true...at all. Felt compelled to comment.

I agree w/ this 100%. AD of an SEC school should not beanyones first venture into NCAA athletic administration. If I had a question about what company to give a tax break to in order to get their business in MS, I'd askWhit. IfI had a question about football scheduling, athleticdepartment fundraising, facilities upgrades, etc., I'd want someonein that office with experience in thatfield.
